Aww. And I was so hoping for the Korean teams to roll out yet another incarnation of that tiresome chick from the North and dude from the South canard. And it’s also too bad that this threatens the mountains of good having the teams marching in the same group in the past few international sporting events has done.
But look on the bright side… At least, with Beijing being so close to Tokyo Disneyland, the imagineers won’t have to travel very far to give the North Korean cheerleading contingent their tuneups.
I don’t understand the (serious) article about the Olympic procession. The use of what names would have forced North Korea to walk behind South Korea? I can’t see what name South Korea (ROK) could be called by that would enable it to come ahead of N.K. (DPRK) in alphabetical order.
I wish a top IOC official would clearly and firmly say, “Not until you are one country can you march together. Not until there is no border at the DMZ. End of discussion.”
Be sure to look through the archives. My favorites are names of Korean TV shows, like the Unemployed Actors’ Wacky Hijinks Show (on 47 times a day), and the old lady’s Valentine’s Day message that she will let her husband know just how much she loves him with a big sign that reads, “I don’t love you!” The guy who made this site really understands the nuances of Korean culture.
“I wish a top IOC official would clearly and firmly say, “Not until you are one country can you march together. Not until there is no border at the DMZ. End of discussion.”
Amen!
I guess the South didn’t want to pay off the North for the joint march that is just B.S. anyway.
I’d bet my next paycheck that Kim Jong Il recieved billions of Won in secret payments for letting Norks participate in the 2(?) joint marches.
I’m sure LMB is not willing to fork over cash for such a facade now.
Not only did the Norks snub the South but, watching the TV coverage of the athletes entering the arena it seemed the Norks got more applause and coverage than the South when they entered. Bound to ruffle a few feathers here!
Hah, when the Japanese entered …. you could hear a cricket chirp, our shitty commentators said, “they have had a few troubles in the past {japan and china}” our coverage is so bad and that is a perfect example. So many interesting talking points, Mauritius coup, Zimbabwe, etc (even forgetting Sudan) and they let the drop. Quick question was there a big cheer for the aussies or was it a backing track from our coverage hacks?

I felt a tad sorry for the Japanese. Many of them had Chinese flags to help sway the crowd but it had no effect. Just goes to show the next decades promise to be quite interesting up here in NE Asia …
Yeah, the cheer for the Aussies was quite loud. Could be the Kevin Rudd effect, maybe the Chinese populace are informed that our PM is a Mandarin-speaking Sinophile (albeit one who has had the nerve to criticise China) hence the applause.

I thought the North didn’t want their athletes walking in with the South Koreans because they didn’t want stuff thrown at their athletes.
I think that is one reason why I hope KRudd is around for a while, how many western leaders can criticise China on Human rights including Tibet IN CHINA and be applauded and not condemned.

The article about North Korea in uncyclopedia is truly hilarious!
The one about South Korea too! A must-see!

@1, second that. Soda came out of my nose with the “People’s rock” poster.
Apparently the North also has a “Unification Ministry”, except they call it the war ministry.
stink’in = stinkin’
The apostrophe replaces the g.
Damn stinkin’ teachers…
Wangkon!
The uncyclopedia link just cracks me up! Especially the poster of NK soldier with a guitar and the caption
“~~ 인민의 락을보여주갓어! LOL
Korean link of it is just priceless. LOL.
thx for the link
“제국주의자 종간나새끼들에게 인민의 락을보여주갓어” LOL
The one on China is pretty funny also…
http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/P.....c_of_China
So is the one on Japan:
http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Japan
It even has a reference to Matt’s favorite dessert!
I like this one:
“Takeshima is Japanese territory! 竹島は韓國の領土だ! Takeshima wa Hangoku no ryōdo da!”
I thought unencyclopedia was supposed to be fake!
The China entry starts off funny but the accented English shtick got tiresome fast.
LOL! Pyeongyang is Roh Moo-hyun City! Now I know it isn’t fake!

I thought ED’s entry on NK was lulzy though not as long as the Uncyc’s;

Aren’t you the guy who mocked a Korean newspaper for misspelling?
In the article on China, Japan appears to not exist…

“Korea Number 1″ of course!

That would stop this nonsense once and for all.
“That would stop this nonsense once and for all.”
Whitey, you know the IOC encourages things like the joint march, don’t you? They’re the ones creating a lot of this nonsense.
Lol the uncyclopedia is awesome !
By the way answer to the SAT question is, Attack Japan, also Attack China counts as a bonus point.
As long as we’re on the topic of parody, and for those who haven’t seen this yet, there’s the Yangpa:

Credit to cmm for finding this first.

the yangpa was great. . . back when it posted.
are there any K-satirists that post more than once a month?

The Yangpa is translated into Korean…candlelight protesters heads’ explode….
In my mind, the yangpa was great, although it was mildly offensive sometimes. But overall, great stuff.
However, he doesn’t really post anymore… maybe he got a Korean gf?
