I’d heard that the Dokdo rocks were small, but I’d never seen them on a human scale before. Now, I understand why Koreans are so worried that Japan will steal them. I hope the thief in the photo above was apprehended.
I thought I recognized this as the outside of Penn Station. I used to work in that building - 2 Penn Plaza, and let me tell you, nutcases like this are such a common sight there that they are guaranteed to be ignored.
Activists sought to bring attention to their cause through peaceful demonstration in public areas located throughout the city yesterday. Other issues highlighted included ‘Stop Continental Drift NOW’ and ‘Soil Erosion is Soil Theft’.
1. When will America stop throwing money into Africa and Iraq and realize that the world has REAL problems?
2. “Mommy, why is Michael Jackson stealing islands?”
“I don’t know. Keep walking.”.
3. Unfortunately, the Koreans failed to realize that Dokdo ranks in the typical American’s priorities somewhere between getting enough niacin and learning semaphore.
4. This is a mistranslation, my friend. Instead of “island,” you should have “pile of rocks not worth flipping a coin over.”
Yes, it is a cutout. The article identifies it as such and if you clink on the link to original, there is another image of the same cutout in Times Square.
oh, it’s even more ironic than that . . . it’s an island “purchased” with beads from a tribe that didn’t actually own the land. The Dutch paid the Carnarsees, Brooklyn natives, but it sounds like the Weckquaesgeeks actually living on the land weren’t were pretty upset, and spent the next couple years at war with the Dutch over the deal (See James Lowen, “Lies My Teacher Told Me, pg. 122 or Wallace, Wallace, and Wallechinsky “Significa” pg. 326)
Or, in Pirate: Arrgh, theys be stealin’ our islands, the rotten scallywags!
Or, in Ebonics: Fo shizzle ma nizzle them islands be mine and ain’t you, ain’t them, ain’t nobody gonna be up in them, without askin’ ma express consensusness.

I’m glad folks understood the whole correlation between Dokdo and Manhatten. Took me a bit to think that one up,
I beat you to the punch in comment #14 (Pssst, wanna buy an island for $24? Eviction of present occupants not included), but the reference was probably missed by most people.
Well, that’s were the correlation ends. Manhattan is prime real estate –the Native Americans really got ripped off– whereas Dokdo is a couple of rocks in the middle of the sea.
“Looks like a cardboard cutout to me (look at the reflection on foot…Seems too glossy to be real).”
I looked around the outlines. And it does look two-dimensional.
Regardless, this is stupid. Dokdo is under Korean control, all those protests and demonstrations are a waste of time. They’re better off trying to find more historical evidance if they want to legalize their claims. Rather then screaming around and annoying people.

New evidence emerges that disproves widespread belief that all Americans are obese.

Who knew Michael Jackson had a dog in this fight?
Just because that woman’s black doesn’t mean she’s going to steal your islands. Jesus Christ, you’re a racist.

Upon catching the thief, local Korean American was dismayed that there was only one pebble in the bag.
Nowadays, even American Gyopo Koreans are quick to snap up the latest Japanese fashion trends.
