Charles of Liminality will be presenting a paper at the summer session of the Society of Korean Oral Literature, and he needs a bit of help:
So I had this bright idea: do a survey of foreigners living in Korea (and foreigners who lived in Korea in the past) and see how they view Korean oral literature and culture. (Not sure what oral literature/culture is? Wikipedia’s entry on Oral Tradition is not a bad place to start.) I think this will make a far more interesting paper than simply writing about my experiences. Of course, for this to happen, I need people to fill out the survey. That, dear reader, is where you come in. I realize that I have readers from around the world, but I also know that a number of my readers are fellow foreigners in Korea. More importantly, some of these people have far more influence than I in the foreigners-living-in-Korea blogosphere. If you are one of the aforementioned foreigners, you can help me out by 1) filling out the survey yourself and 2) spreading the word.
Anyway, put down GTA 4 for a couple of minutes and fill out Charles’ survey. And spread the word. Thanks.

Korean Oral !
Was wondering how long it would take before someone twisted it…
Robert, this is off-topic, but give this Jeff Danziger NYT editorial cartoon (Korean mad cow demo) some press on your blog:

i highly recommend he use something like surveymonkey to organize his questions. the last thing i’d want to do is copy, paste then email a document.
Robert,
Thanks for the post! I really appreciate it!
Judge Judy,
I tried to make it as painless as possible by providing a Word document that you can download and fill out–no pasting or copying necessary. Hopefully that’s not still too much of a hassle.
Sorry to double post, but after reading Judge Judy’s comment, I went over to SurveyMonkey to check it out and decided to whip up a survey. Said survey is now online here:
Korean Oral Literature and Culture Survey
Thanks for the tip! I will update my website to include this link.
#6 Charles
I tried to take your survey at the link provided but couldn’t complete. When I check on one question, it erases my answer in the previous questions if the frequency level is the same (???). Seems to be a code problem.
Bad Monkey,
Thanks for the heads up. I’m not sure what the deal is, but apparently other people are having the problem as well. I’ve had 23 people start the survey, but only 12 people have completed it!
While it’s nice to have an online version, it’s also distressing to know that so many people are starting it and not completing it. However, the online version is only one option. You can still download the Word file and then send that back to me.
Actually, it’s probably better to just put down the GTA 4 and pick up the MGS 4…
To Bad Monkey and all who had problems with question #9: I misunderstood one of the options while designing the question and checked an option I shouldn’t have checked. I went back and unchecked it, and everything should work fine now.
