10,000-Man Beef Fest?

in ROK-US Issues

Money Today reports that conservative groups will be holding a US beef tasting party for some 10,000 people in downtown Seoul on July 12.

Initially, organizers had hoped to hold it in Seoul Plaza, but because the city is now restoring the grass at the plaza, they are looking for a new venue.

Organizers plan to get the beef for free from a Korean-American rancher in the United States.

One conservative group member said the event would be an opportunity to promote the safety of US beef to the public.

Nyam nyam.

Money Today also points out that conservative groups will be holding an anti-candle demonstration on July 5 — yeah, with a lot of foreigners, including English teachers — at the same time as a major candlelight demonstration, prompting fears of a clash.

All I know is chobok is July 17.

Free Beef is always good, almost as good as Free Tibet, probably a lot better than Free Willy

That would depend on whose willy you are talking about.

That sounds like a fun event but I don’t think I can get permission to go to Seoul two Saturdays in a row.

I’d quite like to take my Weber grill down there and provide those folks with some nice steak sandwiches. If they bring the beef I’ll bring the bread, charcoal and grill.

It’s useless to present scientific data and facts to the public, it doesn’t work. But face to face lip rumors and the internet blogs are more accepted amongst Koreans.

I couldn’t have said this any better in this editorial.

Actress Kim Min Seon’s beef hypocrisy and Korea’s lip rumor mills.

Count me in. It’s just unfortunate they’re not doing this on July 4…I was on the lookout for a free BBQ!

“Beef feast?”

Not exactly a family friendly term.

Well, at least it won’t be a sausage feast… ;)

I hope they don’t get bullied by the crazy zombies again.

I call the anti-US beef protestors zombies. lol

I thought the Cows Gone Wild!! Hysteria was on its last leg. Things will probably get even more interesting than they were at the height of this stuff.

The conservative groups are getting involved now somewhat consistently. Given their previous record, if the anti-US/anti-Lee groups decide to continue the violence — we could see things escalate dramatically.

With the foreigners getting involved, we’ve added a whole new dimension.

Throw in former NK soldiers — along with the usual conservative ROK veterans…..man oh man…

I have mixed feelings about the foreigners joining in – though I give it a thumbs up and would be there if I could —- it will be very interesting to see if this plays out further.

Everybody and his brother knows the hakwon industry is F–k me factory on an industrial scale – and has been for years and years….

The ESL community has more than enough reason to protest the Korean government.

And there are a fair amount of them in country.

If they could possibly continue to work with some of these other groups, we might actually see something….

Regarding the foreigners joining in the beef fest, the zombies say they should not interfere with Korea’s problem and mind their own business.

Reading the agora comments,

most of them can’t believe foreigners would protest the anti beef protest They’re saying why the hell are the foreigners getting involved? They’re saying you foreigners were bought off by Lee Myung Bak. I guess they’ve never read the foreigner opinions on this. It figures when most of their opinion is formed based on rumor mongering on the net.

The protest is illegal according to some of the commentators at agora. A number of them are planning to report you guys to immigration.

Zombie echoed something that my wife had said before…Koreans are not individualistic or “selfish” like Americans, they care about each other and their future generation so much that is way they are protesting in candle light…

So why would foreigners participate this protest? Is it because they care so much about Korean’s high food prices and future ROK-US relationship? FTA?

Regardless of what LMB, PD notebook did or said that made many average Koreans out in the street. They will forever claim they did the right thing becuase of their concern for their country…..

Do foreigners have this noble cause to protest like REAL Korean did? North Korea!! Give me a break PLEASE!!

“they care about each other and their future generation so much…” WOW…I must have missed that part somehow.

At any rate, if what you say is true, then only people TRULY passionate about what they believe, based on pure evidence, and with a noble cause should be protesting tomorrow. God. I can’t wait to walk through City Hall, it will be completely empty.

Everyone who has an individual desire to do such should protest whether they be Korean or foreigner. If it is an expression of their “wille zum leben” or will to live and not mass nonsense. In other words, if upon reflection, the individual finds their action to be an expression of their will.

Schopenhauer or Nietzsche would be a starting point for you to understand this concept.
