It’s Chow Time!

What can I say?  Milk does a body good… particularly if you are young.

This is great. Breastfeeding is the most important thing for a baby (and for the mom). Hope this spreads all over Korea, and women stop thinking about not doing it.

    Ignorant question:
Is the reason that Korean mothers generally don’t breast feed is that they are too afraid to get their tits out in public?
Or, is it because, like in my generation, mothers were believing the hype about formula as a substitute? (I was not breast fed)

If it’s the first reason, that’s funny because the old, old pictures of Korean peasants show women of breeding age with just the half-jacket of the hanbok covering their tops. They’ve got their knockers hanging out ready for breast feeding at any moment. So there you’ve got Korean women with their tits out in public. Mind you it was many, many decades ago and most of the women you wouldn’t want to see that way.

Another funny thing is discussing this with Korean friends. Some of them absolutely refused to believe that Korean peasants of old walked around town with their knockers hanging out!

Breast milk is the healthiest thing for growing babies. Period. I’m not sure about breastfeeding in public areas (esp. lobbies and waiting rooms) but sometimes baby needs food and I’d rather a quiet airplane or bus ride than prudishness.

I think the one in the pink shirt could be hotter. Can’t see her entire face, but I think she’s a cutie!

Mrs. Linkd here again. I actually went to this event yesterday. It was promoted to us as “The Breastfed Baby Olympics.” There were prizes, etc. and the only stipulation when participating was that your child is a breastfed baby.

Since I’ve now spent over 8 months comparing beautiful baby Linkd with Korean babies, I have to say, they were some of the prettier ones I’ve seen - not so doughy and swollen looking. And the benefits of breastfeeding for mom’s bra size are of course well known.

My mom came with me and she has a great pic of the herd of photographers taking pics of the row of breastfeeding moms. They SAID they wouldn’t show the faces in the pics… That part of it was a bit creepy. As the only foreign mom there, I knew for sure my boobs would make it into SOME publication if I participated in that part.

I think one reason women give up on breastfeeding is that their moms or mothers in law are raising the babies while they work. Breastpumping is really rare here… my company was quite cooperative about it, but I’m still the only mom to keep it up for longer than three weeks.

Baby Linkd is now 8.5 months old and not a single illness yet!

i read that breastmilk is good for all ages, not just babies.

    another product idea:
    bottled breastmilk.
    from mama’s of different ethnicity.
product names can be “cream” for white mamas, “chocolate” for black mamas, “banana” for yellow mamas…

    how about it, guys?

    @4,

It was the hype of modernity. Formula was considered better than breast feeding. I remember Koreans being surprised to learn that Americans had returned to breast feeding and that there was a campaign in the third world to discourage formula’s use - this conversation was in the early nineties.

    #10,

Look at the size of her thighs. Really, partial shots can be so deceiving.

    #14,

Do you have any sources that I can read upon regarding the topic? Perhaps I can persuade my future wife (if I ever get married) to leave some for me then.

So we may have seen Mrs. Linkd breast feeding. That would have been a little weird…
