Not all koreans demonstrate with lit candles.
Only anti Lee Myungbak people do it.
So ‘Mad Korean Disease’ is not an appropriate term.
‘Candle zombie’ is correct and a wide-spread term in Korea.

A candle zombie (촛불좀비) is a South Korean term for a person who only follows others’ opinions, especially anti-government opinions, without thinking on his/her own.

In response to #68.

I don't know about you but I don't eat pet food or animal feed.

The materials the article refers to is not contained in U.S. beef that HUMAN BEINGS EAT everyday in the U.S. So the argument that Americans won't eat the same beef we export to Korea is false.

"Domestic beef consumption in the US is regulated as well to under 20 months"

"The US wants to sell beef to Koreans that they themselves won’t eat, and for which they have domestic regulations against"

Get your facts straight. U.S. beef consumption includes beef from cattle over than 30 months old. If you were stupid enough to believe this horse dung, then I guess you'd believe me if I told you that the world is flat.

"..we watched the university students doing there protest and we only counted two girls who were relatively attractive out of well over a hundred. we wondered why this was, and decided hot girls had better things to do on a sunday afternoon. all in all the protests are a “nerd brigage” and they don’t really seem to know what they are protesting against. they just want to goof off and get attention."

I think you'll find it's not the hotties that have better things to do, but rather people from stable families whose parents were honest with each other and showed concern for their children's thoughts. If parents don't LIVE with their their children then they may end up thinking life is about appearance, money, education, protests about american beef, etc.
The protest is a complaint about Korea. US beef is meaningless, everyone knows. Abortions in Korea are going to rise a bit this summer.

Slim - thanks to cabal you mentioned, the Korean customer now distrusts the quality of the product. The first step is to win back customer confidence. After people are won over, you now have a group of supporters to help you in your political battles, to expand the range of products you want to sell.

"The customer is always right, so give them what they want, not what we want, even if it seems irrational."

The customer in this case isn't the trade unions, corrupt teachers or broadcasters, the cattle sector or the ag ministry bureaucrats -- but the consumer whose choice is being preempted by that cabal. To countenance their shit is to lower the bar for more junk science in the future and to again wink at protectionism.

I’m sure that’s true, but do you have any sources to back that up? I’d like to have something to show — other than comments — when I speak to Koreans, less I come off like the protesters who get all their knowledge and facts off blogs…

While it's often impossible to point to any one document in order to conclusively show that something has not been banned through lawmaking or regulation (since it's rare that a government would regulate just to say what isn't illegal or banned), mention of beef from 30-month or older cattle as being inherently dangerous or banned is conspicuously absent. A good place to start is the US Dept. of Agriculture fact sheet on BSE, where it specifically mentions that:

Specified Risk Material - FSIS declared that skull, brain, trigeminal ganglia, eyes, vertebral column, spinal cord and dorsal root ganglia of cattle 30 months of age or older and the small intestine of all cattle are specified risk materials that are prohibited in the human food supply.

Which of course infers that materials not mentioned as 'specified risk material' is generally allowed for human consumption. I'm not posting the fact sheet link, since comment moderation seems to be turned on for links, but if you go to the USDA website and search for BSE, you should be able to find it easily enough. The actual regulation is in 9CFR 310.22, should you want something a bit more authoritative.

Until then, take my beef or I’m taking my troops.

Let's take the troops. Rising US beef exports will only increase the number of low-wage jobs taken mostly by undocumented workers from other countries and further pollute midwestern soil and water with factory farm chemical and organic run-off.

Korean refusal to import US beef = fewer dirty factory farms with low-paying jobs + FTA dead = open season on Korean exports to the US

We Americans owe these protestors a debt of gratitude.
