"Kudos to the Chosun for attempting to be a voice of reason in a hurricane of ignorance and stupidity."

"Hurricane of ignorance and stupidity?"...Oh, Korea.

Seriously, the best thing my wife and I did was to leave that god-forsaken hellhole. As a result our stress level has declined and our health improved. We nearly forgot about all the benefits of life in the US, among them affordable beef, breathable air, and people who act decent.

The pundits here who characterize the anti-Americanism as "political" are missing the real point. The very foundation of Korean society is jealousy - Anti-Americanism, anti-Japanese, anit-China, etc are all based on this central, quintessential Korean trait - intense jealousy - the need to pretend to be superior and to rationalize the world to make it appear to conform to this fantasy. Korean society is rotten to the core because it is consumed by jealousy and hate. And this is what differentiates Koreans.

Understand this and you grasp Korea. Then all this madness makes sense.

Yes that's was my question as well.

In Live broadcasting for this morning's SON Seokhee radio show, MBC, one Japanese scientist who was member of the Japanese negotiation team on "American Beef" saying team Japan is really trying hard to import only 20 month or younger cattle even tougher policy than American domestic policy which is prohibits 30 month or older for domestic market.

It was also pointed out to another panel, the president of Kor-AM Association in LA who was depending American beef that no Kor-AM been affected by mad cow when they consume lots of LA Galbi, Galbitang, Seolrung Tang, Gob-chang Geon gol..etc.around LA Korean town, Then Mr. Son was criticizing him by saying Kor-Am only consumed beef from 30 month or younger.

I guess that's the whole focus from civic group that highlighting American Gov is trying to dump unsafe beef to Korean. If this whole thing about cattle age is true, Why could American gov just export 30 month or young one? Can't satisfy American farmers?

Even Reuters is making fun of Korea in this debacle. I love how it follows under the link "latestcrisis". If this was fark.com, it would be proceeded by a "ironic" or "asinine"tag

Public concern about the safety of U.S. beef increased after one South Korean TV network last week claimed Koreans carry a special gene that makes them more susceptible to mad cow disease. Thousands then gathered in Seoul to protest the beef deal.
South Korean scientists and government officials have denied the claims. An editorial from a major daily, the JoongAng Ilbo, criticised the public frenzy as "mad cow madness".

If Brendon is rich, it boggles the mind to contemplate what a Croesus Jeffrey Jones must be.

It does indeed -- my estimate is W1.5-3.0 billion per year. That's pretty rich. I'm not rich as in I'm rich, bitch!, just as in I don't worry too much about the cost of most things.

"Australian and New Zealand beef really is grass-fed as it’s cheaper than feeding imported grain although some meats may be grain-finished to increase the fat content."

I hope someone working on a mass scale is doing it right.

"Do you know exactly what Korean cows are fed? It is increasingly expensive for Korea and other countries to import corn and soy for feed."

I don't know. Recently I've been thinking the same thing about corn since the biofuels market and energy costs are raising prices.

"It would not surprise me if some Korean farmers bulked up the feed to save money."

I wouldn't be surprised either, but I don't want to assume that Korean producers are also feeding their cows things like cement unless I know for sure.

I wonder if there are any known health risks for humans about eating animals that have been consuming cement. It's probably all okay, or else Big Beef wouldn't do it, right?

"Korean beef and rice producers are a very powerful group that the Korean media dare not piss off with any exposes."

You only need one media outlet that didn't get the memo. Also the NGOs can be hell raisers.

Sonagi, do supposedly “grass-fed” Australian and New Zealand cattle really just eat what they pasture, or are they also fed fish, cement, manure, and other things? Or is it just Canadian and American cows?
