Red Guards in Seoul

The East is red according to China’s Xinhua news agency. A photo essay on the Olympic torch relay in Seoul is filled with images of flag-waving patriots and even a Sinophile laowai. Looks like the Chinese government planned ahead and shipped a container full of 五星红旗 (five star red flag) of all sizes to arm the New Red Guards mobilized to protect the torch relay.

The Chosun Ilbo has a report on a pro-Tibet protestor surrounded and beaten by New Red Guards in the lobby of the Plaza Hotel. The story includes links to a Youtube video of the beating, in which the Red Guards can be heard chanting “Beat him to death,” “Long live China,” and “Apologize,” and two additional videos of clashes outside Deoksugung Palace. The New Red Guards are shouting “Jiayou,” or “Go (China)!”

Yeah, a bunch of nerdy guys ganging up on single man…that sure helped China’s image abroad. Are they really that shortsighted or do they really don’t care as long as they get nice pictures to print?

It’s really a shame the cops where there to protect some of those white losers. I was so ready to give a quick bodycheck to the guys outside deokseogung. I’d love to have put my foot in his face. Too bad the cops were there.

Red Guards in Soeul? what kind of anti-Chinese crap are you trying to spin. It’s obvious this site is heavily anti-Chinese people and government. Pure, ignorant garbage. You’ve been watching too much liberal TV news I see. Not a single free opinion on this site. Just constantly parroting the party line.

And you wonder why people think you guys are no more than brownshirts. And for what it’s worth, I’m wondering why the cops didn’t have the Israeli-made high-pressure water hose there to give you guys a bath.

Well, it seems the site is trying to say that Chinese are ultra-nationalist fascists who violently react to anyone who insults their racial pride. If all I had to judge on was your comment, I’d say the site got it just about right.

I assume you were trying to be ironic.

The Two-faced Violent Chinese Propaganda Campaign…

The CCP[?] has been very good at spinning both sides of PR campaigns for a long time. In this case, they can have folks like ESWN translating pieces showing off “the good cop” for opposing a Carrefour boycott (which is the CCP official party line) wh…
