Don’t You Hate It When Relatives Refuse to Return Your Slush Funds

This is why former President Roh Tae-woo is a Class A scumbag:

Former President Roh Tae-woo has filed a lawsuit against his brother and nephew, accusing them of refusing to return a company that they set up with slush funds he entrusted to them two decades ago between 1988 and 1991, during his presidency.

According to the Seoul Central District Court, Roh said in the written complaint that he planned to take away his hidden assets from them to pay the 52 billion ($52 million) won fine imposed on him for corruption.

A refrigeration warehouse firm named Aurora CS in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, valued at 100 billion won, was allegedly established with Roh’s slush fund.

A friend of mine once said that Chun Doo-hwan, for all his faults, was at least good to his friends. But Roh Tae-woo, she said, was so greedy, he stole even from his friends.

The man has absolutely no shame.

I don’t know about this case, but in many jurisdictions the “punishment” can be a combination, does not have to be either/or.

#2 - No… no, he didn’t serve his jail time. He was pardoned by DJ Kim, after serving about 2 years of a 17 year sentence.

Awesome, I got a hat tip!
Okay, the thing I don’t understand… if the company was purchased with slush funds, how in the HELL can Roh Tae-woo sue for ownership?

I remember when all this went down and it was estimated that all the money in his SLUSH funds if stacked would almost be 1.5 times taller than the 63 building.

Don’t know how true it is but sounds like a lot of loot!

They used to find apartments in Seoul stacked with boxes of cash from floor to ceiling.

In any case, did he pay income taxes on the money he earned from the company in question since he got a presidential pardon?

Class A Scumbag is a very appropriate description of the man.

“I believe he already served his jail time.”

    You’re kidding, right?

The govt should simply dispossess the Class B scumbag brother and nephew in order to raise cash for the crime. They after all knowingly accepted stolen money, so they never obtained good title to it. A pox on the lot of them.

That’s only because of the STUPID Korean won denomination. On the other hand, if they had a smaller denomination there might be more bank robberies instead of ripping off the Native English Teacher etc…

    #2,
Although he can’t be retried for accumulating slush funds before 1996, he sure can be arrested for failing to declare income since 1996.
