better than woodstock!
[yawn]
who the heck is djamilya? she’s kind of a heatery. the song itself is absolute shit, though. i never could understand why young koreans like house music so much.
um…ok everyone keeps saying she is hot…i think she looks like she looks like a transgender male.
I just recently saw a K TV program seeking the sexiest woman in Uzbekistan, no doubt thanks to our favorite panty model.
holy mother of god that was one of the most generic things i have ever watched in my life.
it’s right out of the “every shitty music video” play book. Kim Jong Il could have directed a better video. I’d be ashamed if i were the one who made that piece of trash. I bet the production of that video didn’t even include a storyboard.
Couldn’t get through to the end of it ….
that really was terrible! Sure, she is not too bad looking but come on, is anyone really expecting that song to become popular?
Geez, the Wonder Girls are far better than that…
#5 do you know how many 3 incher’s she had to S&F to have that masterpiece of a music video made????
no less than a dozen i would say!
#7 Sad but true… argh.
Vaguely attractive minor TV ‘personality’ makes mediocre video. End of story? No!
The commentators on the ‘hole can add culture, incisive intellect, subtle deconstruction, scintillating metaphors and so on and so forth.
Or they can call her a “whore who had to suck and fuck more than a dozen three inchers”, nicely summing up all the casual idiocy, racism and sexism that too often pervades this fair hole.
‘lest I’m callled overly PC: Mcnut, you’re a fucking retard. Please save your eloquent prose for better things.
#10, could not agree more. thanks for saying that.
‘lest I’m callled overly PC: Mcnut, you’re a fucking retard. Please save your eloquent prose for better things.’
the guy spends quite a bit of time talking about the korean guy with the implication he’s the real man. of course, any man who needs to do that, well…..
I got the feeling that they had to put the camera behind one of those one-way mirrors.
#3: Suggesting this is house music is an insult to the genre. This is really bad rave music from about 20 years ago with a vaguely Slavic or Russian tint to it.
She should just stop wasting everybody’s time and make an actual porn video. The way the camera keeps zooming down her cleavage is hilarious. The title of the song must certainly refer to the guy operating the camera!
BTW, I think McNut is funny. This shameless hussy definitely deserves the “shock and awe” treatment.
pawi did i make you break out your ruler again????
‘pawi did i make you break out your ruler again????’ mcnut
need i say more?
and please ignore his majesty as he angers through the ignorance of korean kids unaware of the american 60s.
and for cuppatea and pawi
its widely saidknown that for a girl to make in the entertainment business here shes doing exactly what i said
period!
hey: if i post something racist and ignorant, will you validate me with your condescending indignant rage, too?
wasnt she kicked off the misuda show for oooozing to much sexuality??????
and now shes making novice coregraphed (yeah not spelled right) videos here in korea
ok shes a good church going girl not being manipulated by the system
or is she manipulating it herself????
it works both ways
she says shes 23, but looks about 32.
and there are stories all throughout the industry about her spreading her legs for any bit player…
shes an ugly beast
Ummmm, ………… never mind.
#19 sure I will, if I happen to be floating through and get time.
That old condescending indignant rage, phoar, it just does something to me; I can distribute such largesse freely, of course.
Why are we linked to stories about her? I admit, I would not kick her out of the yo, but c’mon…she’s not all that. There are by far hotter babes out there. She’s a snooze.
Is this the only post at the ‘Hole today?
I need my Korean politics fix!
Don’t know what you’re whingeing about. The song works like a charm when I’m selling socks from the back of my Bongo. When the ear hears a catchy synthesizer everyone knows there are bargains galore to be had. Politicians use it too.
i like the video!
this from a kyopo who hates expats.
Holy shit! Is she running for office? ’cause that song sounds like a surefire election campaign difference-maker.
Watch her arms go like pistons: she’s trying to start the “섹시 마카레나”
All I know is when I heard this music start, I started looking around for rocking tour buses loaded with ajummas pumping their pointy fingers and waving glow-sticks in the air. All she’s missing is an echo microphone instead of that throaty whisper-voice. I’m sure we could find one for her by Jongno 3-ga.
25: come on, seth gecko. Limpid t&a (note the lower case) is far better than yet another “LMB Credits Korean Wave to Deregulation and Tax Cuts, Going Back on His Announcement of Three Days Ago” story.
Funniest comment so far:
“‘lest I’m callled overly PC: Mcnut, you’re a fucking retard. Please save your eloquent prose for better things.”
Stay classy, San Diego!
(that enough for you, cuppa?)
Where are they? All the ajummas on my partay bus have thick, stubby fingers.
Seouldout:
Jongno 3-ga station, Jongmyo Park, friend. All day, every day, the ajummas and halmonies are there, and ready to show you how they do it in Kyungsan Province. Plus, they don’t demand to be pampered before they party, like those hoity-toity apkujeong princesses.
But you gotta move fast, before the soju-smelling old men and angry hobos chase you all the way to myeong-dong.
Just douse yourself with soju (the smell attracts the ladies, and helps you blend in with the men) get your pointy fingers ready, and have a backup plan in case the angry old men try to set you on fire for stealing their women (I suggest learning the words to Sinatra’s “My Way” which lulls the old men into a hypnotic, swaying trance).
Question:
Don’t we all have something better to do?
I agree. By Beyonce or Britney Spears standards the music video is pretty lame but by Uzbekistani standards, it is probably cutting edge.
BTW, while I was watching Djamilya expressing her bodily talent, I realized that any thoughts of 3 inch cocks was just about the furthest thing from my mind. Maybe it’s just me.
Even the best music of that “baby-what-you-do-to-me” genre sucks, IMHO, but who can fault a woman from a hellhole of a country from cashing in on her accidental fame in one of Asia’s most influential pop culture centers?
Anybody can be a singer nowadays…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_correction
…but, obviously, not everybody can write good songs.
Djamila’s showing a lot less flesh than the amateur stars of Girls Gone Wild and probably getting paid more for it. Ride the wave, Uzbek girl!
‘She should just stop wasting everybody’s time and make an actual porn video. The way the camera keeps zooming down her cleavage is hilarious. The title of the song must certainly refer to the guy operating the camera!’ king baeksu
from around the park? this is some classy stuff, your majesty. were it not for my suspicion of expats, i would have bought thy pen long ago. thanks be to God for divine insight.
‘This shameless hussy definitely deserves the “shock and awe” treatment.’ king baeksu
that’s her real crime, isn’t it? with mr kim too much time.
from around the park?
****
good for this lady. everybody’s trying to make it in this world and i hope she makes some money. i thought her moves were unsophisticated but that’s part of the charm.
good luck to her!
That video is almost as bad as Ban Ki-Moon’s announcement that Islam isn’t about violence…
But not quite…
still yurt trash
Wow, JTB in Texas: you just won the non sequitur of the week award.
You must have quiet a wingspan to make a reach like that. Well-played.
wang-kon #32: coming online and posting a comment telling the OTHER commenters to get a life (especially when your username doubles as a link to your own homepage) is kind of a case of the pot calling the kettle black, don’t ya think?
I’ve never understood why people get on comment boards and tell OTHER people on the comment boards “gee, looks like somebody’s got too much time on his hands”
why not come clean with “gee, looks like somebody ELSE has too much time on his hands, TOO”
in the words of pat condell:
Peace.
“That video is almost as bad as Ban Ki-Moon’s announcement that Islam isn’t about violence…
But not quite…”
How many country have the word ‘God’ on their money?
In any case, some of the comments seem a tad sexist. I don’t remember seeing any of you calling Bi a cheap slut. After all, he was trying to be sexually appealing to Korean women, just as she is trying to have the same affect on Korean men.
#42 - Get with it, dude. Everyone knows that women who attempt to appeal to Korean men are ‘cheap sluts’, while men who attempt to appeal to Korean women are ‘gay’.
hey someguy:
bi is a cheap slut.
The double standard is more glaring when one compares the commenter reactions to Djamila prancing to the delight of Korean men with all the verbal ejaculating on threads spawned by photoshopped images of surgically enhanced Korean women.
In Korea, I had a colleague who was the perfect all-American beauty - 5′7″, blonde, with long legs and an hourglass figure. All the men on our staff fantasized about her, but alas, she was taken - by a very masculine ROK special forces ranger who, I’m sure, packed more than 3 inches in his pants. A minority of Western women I knew in Korea and China did not find Asian men physically attractive; however, those who had Asian boyfriends/spouses were sexually satisfied with their although cultural issues did crop up in the relationship.
#37: “that’s her real crime, isn’t it? with mr kim too much time.”
Pawi, I’m a strong advocate of miscegenation so I don’t really care who she shtups. But I find it passing strange that she has adopted the persona of a downscale Korean bar girl, and that this shtick is in turn being marketed as “culture” and shoved down people’s throats. That’s the only crime I see here.
If you read the comments on YouTube, you can see that most people agree, and all she is doing embarrassing Korea in front of the wider world:
http://www.youtube.com/comment.....FagFNYG8Tw
Happy wanking!
#45,
Sure. When you look at Choi Hong Man, it seems pretty obvious that Korean men aren’t all ‘metrosexual’…and I bet he’s packing more than 3 inches (not that I would care to find out).
I have several Korean friends I work out with at the gym who tip the scale at over 100kg.
#36: “Ride the wave, Uzbek girl!”
It used to be that a music video was an ad for the song.
Now the song is an ad for the music video.
Welcome to The Matrix.
I must say that I am slightly puzzled by your support here, Sonagi. Is this some sort of example of postfeminist “girl power” that I simply don’t understand, like when young women do “Girls Gone Wild” videos and they are “reclaiming their sexual subjectivity” or whatever?
“I’m a strong advocate of miscegenation”…
Well, I’m mixed race…but main the reason I’m a big fan of interracial mixing is:
http://images.google.com/image.....amp;tab=wi
“Is this some sort of example of postfeminist “girl power” that I simply don’t understand, like when young women do “Girls Gone Wild” videos and they are “reclaiming their sexual subjectivity” or whatever?”
Not quite the same. Those girls get paid little, if any at all. They are being exploited, whether they know it or not. The Uzbek temptress, on the other hand, is earning far more money than you and I.
#50: I was being somewhat facetious, and anyway, I doubt she is making much more money now compared to when she was working her local tallan jujom. For starters, her “manager” is probably getting a minimum 50% cut of whatever she makes, and secondly, I doubt she is even that popular here. Certainly she will not be moving many units of her musical masterpiece if people actually have to pay for it.
Halle Berry is a beautiful woman although I’m not a fan of silicone enhancement.
I believe that true world peace can only be achieved when all races start seriously gettin’ busy with each other!
See #50. I have no problem with women profitting from their own sexuality. Ashley Dupre is a smart gal, earning $4,000 an hour for riding middle-aged men. Beats scrounging tips as a Starbucks barista. If I had Ashley’s bod and super immunity from STDs, I’d change occupations in a heartbeat.
“For starters, her “manager” is probably getting a minimum 50% cut of whatever she makes, and secondly, I doubt she is even that popular here.”
Even if her manager keeps 50% percent of what she earns, she still earns a good chunk for herself. You’d be surprised how much some of these Uzbek models earn appearing on the shopping channels. She’s been in TV ads, right? In my experience, the minimum paid for a spot is 1.6 million won. My guess is she’s getting quite a bit more than that since she’s now a ‘talent’.
Nor rhinoplasty.
http://www.celebrityplasticpics.com/halleberry.htm
Halle’s first big break was on Knots’ Landing, in which she appeared pre-surgery. She was beautiful then, as you can see from the picture, and I think she would have become a top star sans alterations. Her natural nose looked better than her present one, which is too sculpted.
#54,
Well, she looks great either way. Besides, it’s not as if she had her whole face redone like a certain Australian actress who barely looks like a redhead anymore.
#52: Well, fine, and no disrespect to sex workers, but Djamilya clearly cannot sing and especially not in Korean. Plus that bad rave music is worse-sounding than the construction work going on down the street.
That’s why I said she should just make a porn video instead and stop trying to fake it. I wouldn’t have a problem with that, although she’d better hurry because she’s starting to look a bit ajumma-ish in my opinion.
“Expat Ajummas Gone Wild”? Could be something there!
I don’t begrudge her a single hundred-won coin she’s making. She’s earning it.
Besides, who knows what she’s really like when not in character? She’s obviously sharp enough to have put together a very successful act.
Anybody else think it’s kinda fucked up how everyone assumes that Djamilya is a prostitute just because she comes from a former Soviet country? It’s interesting what stereotypes we allow ourselves and which we don’t.
Maybe take a step back and think about what you’re saying.
Some fucking low-quality folks roaming this post today.
#58: From http://www.m-w.com:
Prostitute (2): a person (as a writer or painter) who deliberately debases his or her talents (as for money).
Are you saying she’s actually a talented singer?
I’ve met Korean women from just about every background and job description, and, well, I can assure you that she did not learn to speak Korean the way she does at Sogang’s Korean Language Institute.
Didn’t the Ministry of Gender Equality complain about her? That should tell you everything you need to know right there.
#58, #59,
Yeah, I agree.
#60,
Nice try. For her to debase her talents as a singer, she would need to have some. Until we know for sure that she does, the prostitute label doesn’t stick.
“That’s why I said she should just make a porn video instead and stop trying to fake it. I wouldn’t have a problem with that, although she’d better hurry because she’s starting to look a bit ajumma-ish in my opinion.”
Right…I you say so.
#61: The talent to which I referred did not necessarily mean her singing ability.
While I agree she has a right to make money for herself, I would argue that her net effect on the image and reputation of foreigners in Korea is not very positive. Put it this way: I can’t imagine that the Korean-American community would be very happy if some ditzy K-gal was singing in really bad English on national American TV and basically acting like a stoned stripper while the camera zoomed down her cleavage.
Can you?
#53. When I grow up I want to be a fucking whore. You are shit sonagi, I have zero respect for you.
Are you Uzbek? Because “foreigners” are not actually a real group. So, unless you are Uzbek, then I don’t think it has much to do with you at all!
Koreans do distinguish foreigners somewhat, but the king makes a valid point that Djamila’s act perpetuates Korean stereotypes about Russian and Central Asian women as prostitutes. Asian-American and women’s rights groups would howl in protest if a Korean woman tried the same trick in the US, the combination of mockable English and tarty sexuality. It would be interesting to know what Russian and Central Asian women think of Djamila’s career moves, but I don’t think we have any commenters who fit that description.
William Hung.
So I guess singers like Lee Hyo-ri, Mina, and others of that type reinforce Korean stereotypes about Korean women as prostitutes?
You’re right about the women’s rights groups in America, but in my opinion, it’s a damn shame that those groups are so afraid of sexuality, female and male. Would Asian-American groups really protest? I’m not real sure. If the Korean woman’s English was extremely bad then probably.
No, Colontos, singers like Lee Hyo-ri, Mina, and other Korean entertainers do not reinforce Korean stereotypes about Korean women as prostitutes in Korea because such stereotypes do not exist in Korea. Koreans do associate Russian and Central Asian women with prostitution. Several years ago, there was a Russian-British waegook with platinum blond hair who appeared on an Arirang TV program. She spoke good Korean, mostly had positive things to say about her experiences in Korea, but complained about being sexually harassed because of her Russian looks and ancestry.
A Korean woman wearing scanty clothes, gyrating, ad speaking English to a North American audience as badly as Djamila speaks Korean would definitely arouse protests from Asian-Americans, who are sensitive to negative media images of Asians speaking broken English ala Long Duck Dong.
#54
“Well, she looks great either way. Besides, it’s not as if she had her whole face redone like a certain Australian actress who barely looks like a redhead anymore.”
Ill take the bait.
1: Edna Everage has never once claimed not to have died her hair.
2: There is no evidence she has undergone cometic surgery.
3: She is an entertainer, not an actress. Any film/drama appearances are as cameos of herself as a real person.
To be perfectly honest, I’ve heard the Russian woman = prostitute MUCH more from English-speaking foreigners in Korea than from Koreans themselves.
To be perfectly honest, it wasn’t English-speaking foreigners who mistook beaten and bloodied rape victim Winter Raymond for a Russian prostitute and turned her away when she sought treatment at the first hospital.
There was a period of about two years just after the Asian currency crisis (which hit Russia as well), during which there was quite a flood of Russian girls into Korea. There was such an oversupply that even small town hofs could but a couple dancers on barrel.
Mrs. Linkd has some slavic features, and she got some pointed inquiries from cab drivers around that time. My impression now, though, is that it’s largely blown over. Korean girls have reclaimed the room salons, and the much smaller number of Russians stick to modeling on home shopping television. Am I wrong?
#68: Colontos, there are sliding scales of female sexuality in Korea and what is and isn’t permissible here. Comparing Lee Hyo-ri and Djamilya may seem easy on the surface but in fact they are pushing their own sexuality in very different and perhaps opposite ways. Lee Hyo-ri is much more mature and asserting her own sexuality in a very dominant way. She is a sexual subject. Her hit “10 Minutes” was all about how she could seduce a guy in 10 minutes. She was more like Madonna in certain respects, although perhaps Britney is the closer comparision. That said, there was a backlash and criticism in the media here because of her overt sexuality.
Djamilya, on the other hand is at the opposite end of the spectrum. She is a total sexual submissive and super-childish, and therefore reactionary from a feminist perspective. She is a sexual object. A key to her approach is the way she uses the word “Oppa” all the time (it’s even in the title of her new song). Korean women do not use that word lightly in normal society but if you go to a Korean hostess bar they use it all the time and readily. Why? Because they want to flatter the male customer into spending his money. In any case, I’ve been to Russia and women there do not act like immature sexual submissives in general, so I am pretty confident in saying that Djamilya is putting on an act and the act she is putting on is the cheap Korean hostess act. Now, if an American woman was doing this on national Korean TV I would object in the same strong terms. It’s just ridiculous and in some ways is comparable to blackface in America. It does not help the position of foreign women in Korea at all and in the end probably hurts it.
@72 - And of course we all know that the only reason that that story triggered such outrage among the English-speaking expat community was that she was not actually Russian. If she had been Russian, or (God forbid!) a prostitute, it would have been ignored.
Say what you want about Korean racism, but English-speaking expats in Korea are certainly comlplicit in some of the hierarchies that exist.
I had a Canadian coworker who, looking in one of the local English-language rags in Seoul, saw an ad for Russian language study and assumed that it must be a cover for prostitution.
@74 - Your post is pure bullshit. I’ll only point out that the word “oppa,” contrary to your extremely ill-informed assertion, is used extremely lightly among young people. It’s what an agasshi calls a man slightly older than her but not old enough to be an ajoshi. Now, if you’ve only heard it in hostess bars, that says more about you than anything else. As if Djamila is the only “sexual object” out there, and none of those Korean “sexy dancers” are. Pure, unadulterated horse shit, sir.
Also, I’m not sure if everybody really “gets” this, but Djamila is not Russian. Uzbekistan and Russia are completely different in terms of ethnicity, and they have been politically separate for 17 years now. So you having been to Russia has nothing to do with this either.
WE do? That is an extremely presumptuous statement and a pathetically failed attempt to dismiss the wrongful treatment that Winter received.
Do you know for a fact that Djamila’s ancestry is 100% Uzbek? Frankly, she does not look it with her very pale skin. She has an Uzbek name, but she looks mixed. One of my colleagues is a Russian Uzbek, now a naturalized US citizen. In Uzbekistan, there are many mixed marriages among the various ethnic groups - Uzbeks, Russians, Koreans, others - according to her, so your statement that “Uzbekistan and Russia are completely different in terms of ethnicity” is inaccurate. Uzbekistan isn’t just for Uzbeks and Russia isn’t just for Russians. Both are populated by a number of ethnic groups; hence, intermarriage is not uncommon.
I have to completely dissagree with you colontos. I think that Baeksu hit on a very large portion of the truth. It may be that Lee Hyo-ri is simply a better actress. I think the music she put out was a genuine attempt at getting in touch with a sexuality that I wouldn’t say all women, but some women have. A certain assertiveness which allows them to feel less ashamed of themselves as sexual beings.
Djamila’s act, at least in my opinion, is pure affectation. She is throwing out everything that she believes a male audience wants to see and hear. Nothing genuine and nothing really her, or if it is her she has coincidentally hit on all the stereotypes which I abhor.
Check out the post on Friday Afternoon Mongolian Folk Rock, listen to it then listen and watch the Djamila video. If you can tell me that she has anything resembling heart or sincerety injected into what she did afterwards, I’d truly be surprised.
#75: “Now, if you’ve only heard it in hostess bars, that says more about you than anything else.”
Is that what I said? If well-bred young Korean women call strange men they do not know “oppa” outside the context of the sex or “entertainment” industry on a regular basis, then yes, I am mistaken. But is this true?
I used to do some TV work here. Sometimes I would hang out with the PDs and male production assistants and a lot of them would boast of how often they went to room salons and how much they’d spend there. My guess is that either consciously or unconsciously, Djamilya pours on the coquette routine, with a heavy helping of aegyo, because she sees that it gets a favorable reaction from the guys that count, and have been able to get her where she is today.
Though I’ve not been to Uzbekistan, I’ve been all over Eastern Europe and all over China (as well as Russia as already mentioned), and only in Korea have I seen the phenomenon of fully-grown women acting like they are 12-years old as a way of trying to turn on men, just as Djamiliya does. Come to think of it, not even North Korean women I’ve known act this way.
If adult Uzbek women also act like 12-year-olds as a way of acting sexy and appealing to Uzbeq men, then yes, I am mistaken, but somehow I don’t think so.
BTW, if I toss in a lot of swear words into my argument, will that make it more prusuasive to you, Colontos?
So many people wanting to lift themselves by demeaning a woman… sad…
Granted she’s not very entertaining, she’s more likely to sell move videos than I will…
Learned a new word today, aegyo. Can’t say I’m a big fan. Now if someone can come up with an example in its pure form, natural, unmanipulated, then I might change my mind. Someone called it a sweetness of disposition. I’d call it a disingenuous affectation.
79: “she’s more likely to sell move videos than I will…”
Just barely. Only suckers pay for legal videos here and downloading or file-sharing for free is the norm.
The funny thing is that just a couple hundred meters from the US Embassy in Kwanghwamun, you can buy — from numerous different street vendors — illegal bootlegs of every new Hollywood release for just W2,5000 or less than $3.
Guess it’s part of the upcoming US-Korea FTA, eh?
#80: Whenever some underperforming slacker chick in my classes at Hongik wanted an absence ignored or a low grade on a test raised without any sort of legitimate reason, they’d pour on the aegyo like crazy.
Aegyo is the power of the powerless. See Djamilya for further reference.
@76 - I’m not dismissing anything except the extremely targeted and selective outrage of English-speakers in Korea.
I don’t know how many Uzbeks you’ve known, but I’ve known a good number and their skin is quite pale if they stay out of the sun. Their complexion is pretty similar to lighter-skinned Koreans, actually. Young Uzbek women are usually pale.
Of course I don’t know Djamila’s exact ethnic makeup, but if it became known that she were 100% Uzbek, no one would be surprised. She looks very Central Asian.
And how about you stop obfuscating? Russian and Uzbeks are completely distinct. Obviously that doesn’t mean that intermarriage doesn’t happen. Korean/white American marriages are common, but do you say that Korean and white Americans are not distinct groups? Come on, now, have some respect for your audience. What I’m bothered by is the apparent equation of Russian and Uzbek by the king.
@77 - Whether or not anybody is “sincere” or puts “heart” into their music has nothing to do with this discussion.
@78 - Swear words might help your argument somewhat, yes, but informed opinions and “sequiturs” (instead of the non- variety) would do wonders for it. Try some of those on for size.
colontos comes across as a return of youngrocco: same tone and logic.
If you’re going to use terms like “ethnic,” please use them correctly out of respect for the mostly educated audience here. White Americans are not a single ethnic group but a somewhat outdated and unscientific racial classification that lumps together people of European and Middle Eastern heritage.
Russians and Uzbeks are not homogenous either.
The current population of Uzbekistan is 24.8 million. Seventy-five to 80 percent are Uzbek, though many of these were originally from other ethnic groups. Russians and Tajiks are each 5 percent, Karakalpaks 2 percent, and other nationalities the remainder.
http://www.everyculture.com/To-Z/Uzbekistan.html
On an Uzbek online forum, there is a very interesting discussion about what human genome mapping reveals about the origins of different nationalities.
About Russians:
“The Russians. This pie chart shows a overwhelming majority European Y-Chromosome make-up, with a not insignificant Asiatic input, and then smaller Middle Eastern and sub-Saharan African input.”
About Uzbeks:
“The Uzbeks – A true cross roads of the world, with almost every race imaginable leaving an imprint.”
http://forum.arbuz.com/showthr.....amp;page=2
Dmamila’s passport may be Uzbek, but she would blend right in on any Russian street because both groups are heterogenous as evidenced by gene mapping. Koreans probably distinguish Uzbeks and Russians as much as Americans distinguish Koreans and Chinese.
Please quote where I referred to white Americans as an “ethnic” group. I referred to them as a “group,” which they are.
Djamila does not look Russian, sorry. She looks Central Asian. But this is beside the point. No ethnic group is completely homogenous; so do ethnic groups not exist? You have to know that you’re being willfully dumb just so you can “win” an argument. Answer this question:
Uzbek = Russian. True or false?
The answer, of course, is false. The King and many others seemed to be equating them. That was my point and you know it, you insufferable unctuous bore.
You’re misunderstanding the argument. It’s not whether ethnic groups exist but how distinguishable they are to outsiders. Going back to the example of a Korean woman gyrating in scanty clothes while singing in broken English, not only ethnic Koreans but other Asian-Americans might object because even if Americans know she is Korean, what they see is an Asian woman. Likewise, when Koreans see Djamila, they don’t see an Uzbek; they see a white woman with dark eyes and hair. Remember that Koreans use the word “foreigner” more often than English speakers do and use the word to identify non-Koreans even when the nationality is known.
Since you’re so skillful at distinguishing Uzbeks from Russians, maybe you could put up an Eastern European/Central Asian version of Alllooksame to help out the rest of us?
Colontos, you were the first to compare Djamilya with Lee Hyo-ri, saying if Djamila was prostituting herself then we would think the same of Lee Hyo-ri. Baeksu gave you a few points as to why they weren’t analogous. You told him that was horse bleep and I gave you my version of why I personally think Lee Hyo-ri is the genuine article while I feel Djamilya really is prostituting herself. I didn’t say it that harshly but she certainly is in comparison to most. She’s so very transparent. It’s all about what men, at least in Korea, want to hear. If you think Djamilya is sincere in her act then you probably buy into juicy girls schtick in stand-up bars. The conversations in those bars would be fairly comparable to Djamilya’s lyrics. Certainly their body language and tone would be almost identical. If that’s what you want in your music then that’s fine. Who can account for taste? I think Bittney Spears has a huge dose of prostitute also. That’s just my opinion.
Now if you think I’m off topic then let’s look at the genesis of this thread…”Click here to view.” I guess you have a point.
