Seoul Has Plans to Attack N. Korean Nuclear Sites

by Robert Koehler on March 27, 2008

It’s not particularly surprising that the plans exist, but it’s certainly new to hear them mentioned in public:

The South Korean military is prepared to launch a pre-emptive attack on North Korea’s nuclear installations if they become a military threat, Gen. Kim Tae-young, the newly designated chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a hearing yesterday.

It was the first time the military has confirmed contingency plans for a pre-emptive attack on Pyongyang’s nuclear facilities and comes as Seoul’s new conservative government is being closely watched for signs of how it will approach North Korea

Kim also expressed his intention to defend the Northern Limit Line in the West Sea, which he called “as significant as the land border.”

Looks like someone’s goose is cooked. It’s about time that South Korea puts a little bit of pressure on North Korea. After all, the South Korean military is one of the most technologically advanced in the world..and the North Korean army still has WW2 era tanks and Korean War era planes…and no fuel to put into them and no food to fill the stomachs of its soldiers. It’s about time that people stop fearing North Korea.

According to Bloomberg, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have put out a statement denying that Kim said this.
