This is beyond words — beating your family to death with a fucking baseball bat before offing yourself:
A former bank executive facing trial for embezzlement beat to death his wife and the couple’s four adopted children before killing himself by ramming his car into a highway sign post, police said on Tuesday.
Investigators in Iowa City provided details of the tragedy which came to light on Monday when the bodies of Sheryl Sueppel, 42, and the couple’s children ranging in age from 3 to 10 were found in their house on a quiet suburban street.
Yes, the children were all Korean, and yes, the story has made the portal sites here.

He killed six people over half a million dollars. Wow.
That is just terrible. I don’t know what else to say.
What a stunning act of cowardice– to kill his wife and kids because of crimes that he commited.
Wow. Trans-racial abductees have a hard life.
I fail to see the line of trajectory you’re on there, Mr. Carr. Are you implying such a vile act of cowardice and fucking insanity would carry any weight had the figure been exponentially higher? Just curious. Human life comes without a price tag. It’s irrelevant.
“Wow. Trans-racial abductees have a hard life.”
As do the poor kids out there who wind up brutally murdered by their birth parents, or by adoptive parents of the same race.
This is a terribly sad story, regardless of whether international adoption - or whatever you prefer referring to it as - played any role whatsoever in the tragedy.
I hope there is a heaven and I hope there is a hell.
Carr is a lawyer with a blog, which says everything. Of course $$$ is coming up, he probably has none.
Who, other than the guy who killed his family because he was facing a $500,000 jam, said anything about the value of a human life? You guys need to get over the lawyer animus. I’m just a working stiff like you.
I played baseball with that guy in Iowa, I struck him out!
i get brendans point which i think was to say
it seems a little extreme to kill your entire family over just 500K worth of embezzlement
but these people are beyond insane at the point you decide to hurt your children i can not speak for adoptive kids but my biological kids i could never imagine hurting them over anything i did
it just doesnt make sense
Psychopaths are now bludgeoning their victims to death with baseball bats… looks like gun control is finally having the desired effect. It just needs to be ramped up so that one day we can live in a society where all murders are committed with blunt force trauma and motor vehicles.
#9 too bad you didn’t fast ball him in the temple and end it there.
#10… “a LITTLE extreme” ?…I expect you are tyring to be polite/non-offensive with your choice of words ( you could name a price I suppose where little became a lot)….”can’t speak for adoptive kids” ?….yes you can, say what you would say about the abuse/murder of any child: I can speak for your kids: I would stop you (at all costs to myself) from trying to bludgeon them to death…I don’t mean to get on your case, but I think in these instances it is OK to be committed to your feelings and opinions, …
#11…I suppose a bullet to the head would have been more humane…ever see someone accidentally bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat?..and since you seem sensative to particulars, murder by motor vehicle would also be blunt force trauma…buckle up and don’t clean your loaded gun while driving off to your baseball game…carefull if #9 is the pitcher..he may be aiming for the temple this time!
Wonder if the adoption agencies are gonna tell the Korean birth parents that their kids are doing “fine” in America.
One wonders at the utter lack of humanity and basic manners exhibited by the many of the comments here. It’s a tragedy. The guy stole $500,000+/- from folks who trusted him; and then he stuck it up his nose (cocaine). After being caught, in his pride, he decided to punish the only innocent victims he could reach (his family). Then he killed himself.
Frankly, I wish he’d killed himself before stealing, snorting, and killing. I think this indicates the Biblical stories of “demon possession” might, in fact, be true… and not just of historical interest…
Mocking any of the dead, those connected to the family (but unconnected to the ex-banker’s crimes), or the birth families of the children (as in #13) is vile and contemptuous behavior.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
whatever. obviously you have no idea from what context I’m writing from. shame is the last thing i feel.
Eh…
I don’t think adoption had anything to do with it…
Two years ago a Korean man killed his two young children over financial difficulties in Los Angeles.
http://www.latimes.com/news/lo.....-headlines
He “attempted” suicide, but was too much of a coward to go through with it.
“He killed six people over half a million dollars.”
A more plausible explanation is that he killed six people under cocaine. That was the first thing that came to mind even before I read the article, this is what people on coke do. As for the half million dollars, that may have made him more of an addict, but $500,000 alone wouldn’t mean that much to an executive banker!
Case in point: he was released on a $250,000 personal bond.
‘Wonder if the adoption agencies are gonna tell the Korean birth parents that their kids are doing “fine” in America.’ vile expat
‘whatever. obviously you have no idea from what context I’m writing from. shame is the last thing i feel.’ vile expat in response to criticism
yes, shame is the last word i’d use to describe your comments. however, the root of your comment says humiliation. that’s why you’re looking for the korean angle.
tsk, tsk, tsk…..
“obviously you have no idea from what context I’m writing from”
Um, the context of moral bankruptcy and rank stupidity?
Very sad.
I expect quite a lot of Koreans will dump on foreigners adopting Korean kids now…again
I’m sure they would prefer orphans to grow up in orphanages and then spend their adult lives in Korea as total outcasts.
If a white dude killed his adopted kids who happened to be Viet, black etc… Koreans here wouldn’t give a shit.
“If a white dude killed his adopted kids who happened to be Viet, black etc… Koreans here wouldn’t give a shit.”
Yep, they probably wouldn’t give a shit. Sames goes for Vietnamese. If the mail order brides who were killed by Korean farmers weren’t Viet, I’m sure Vietnam wouldn’t give a shit either. Everybody seems to show a little more interest if you can show some sort of emotional connection to a particular event. In this case it’s an ethnic connection.
So what’s your point?
This has everything to do with adoption…
It really is true that once a population gets to a certain enormous size, anything and everything short of the supernatural is bound to happen. I always thought a person had to possess a special type of charity and sanity to be able to adopt at all, let alone kids from overseas who may experience massive difficulty with the fact that you the parent are white while the they are not, and yet here you have the same person being a saint in one instance and a total fuckin lunatic in another. I mean, how often do adoptive parents bludgeon their kids to death over financial/personal difficulty? It really is a one of a kind event that I think even the psychologists would have difficulty giving any sort of explanation for.
JW, you raise an interesting question. This example comes to show that being a saint and a devil aren’t mutually exclusive when you factor in cocaine.
