There’s a Lot of Reasons to Hate Eliot Spitzer…

in Completely Random Crap, Korean Economy, ROK-US Issues

But man, I hate watching officials resign over something as stupid as this.

Perhaps I’ve been in Korea too long, but I find it reassuring that my leaders are getting laid, although admittedly, you have to wonder about the judgment of any man willing to shell out up to US$31,000 a day for a piece of ass. Particularly a high-ranking cadre of the vanguard of the proletariat that is the New York State Democratic Party.

The Huffington Post posts photos from the now-taken-down website of the Emperors Club VIP to give you an idea of what you get for US$31,000 a day.

Anyway, this is more reason I’m glad I live in Korea. Here, politicians will resign for any number of reasons — some better than others — but banging prostitutes is NOT one of them. Heck, our current head of state has even shared pointers in the media on how to pick out massage girls.

UPDATE: Here’s the hourly rates they were charging:

The ring’s Web site showed pictures of the prostitutes, cropped so faces were not visible, and listed names like Sienna and Christine. The Web site, which was disabled shortly after the arrests were announced, ranked the prostitutes on a scale of one to seven “diamonds.” A three-diamond woman, for example, could command a fee of $1,000 per hour. A seven-diamond woman cost more than $3,000 an hour.

For its most valued clients, the Emperor’s Club offered membership in the elite “Icon Club,” with hourly fees starting at $5,500, according to the federal complaint. The club also offered clients the opportunity to purchase direct access to a prostitute without having to contact the agency.

And this is why I wonder what I’ve done with my life at age 33:

According to the office of the United States attorney in Manhattan, Mark Brener, 62, of New Jersey, was the leader of the ring, but delegated day-to-day business responsibilities to Cecil Suwal, 23, also of New Jersey. The office said that Ms. Suwal controlled the bank accounts, took applications from prospective prostitutes and oversaw two booking agents, identified by the authorities as Temeka Rachelle Lewis, 32, of Brooklyn, and Tanya Hollander, 36, of Rhinebeck, N.Y.

Sheesh…

As attorney general in 2003, Spitzer spoke with revulsion about prostitution after he brought suit against a Queens company suspected of planning sex tourism trips to Asia. The agency, Big Apple Oriental Tours, had been accused of arranging tours for men seeking sex with prostitutes, some underage, in the Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia.

“The company purports to be a traditional travel agency, but through its actions promotes prostitution and the abuse of young women,” Spitzer said.

It was such crusading prosecutions, particularly of Wall Street financiers, that propelled Spitzer to the governor’s office in January 2007 after receiving a historic 69 percent of the vote. He burnished his reformist credentials by getting lawmakers to enact tough new rules on lobbying and governmental ethics.

What a freakin’ hypocrite. He should run off and join Larry Craig somewhere.

The real question is Whose money is he spending on these prostitutes?

The salary of the Governor of New York is $179,000. The Attorney General makes $151,500. Not chump change, but not exactly Donald Trump. $2000-4000 each time they get together and we’re talking some real money.

Spitzer’s wife Silda has had a successful career as an attorney in private practice, then in-house at Chase Manhattan Bank. I’d guess she’s not on a poverty wage, but in-house lawyers usually aren’t rolling in cash either. If she still works I’d bet her salary is something like Princess Michelle Obama’s in Chicago. That makes their household income $500K or so — if she still works. If she doesn’t, then Eliot’s penis’ activity fund is coming from their — her — savings because his salary doesn’t allow for that kind of spending.

So, here’s the real problem — Is Eliot Spitzer, the crusader, taking bribes from somewhere?

Silda Spitzer, by the way, is smart and hot-looking. I’d hit it. Perhaps she’ll be single soon.

UPDATE: I found his 2006 family income was almost $2 million, because Eliot Spitzer is a property tycoon. Attorney General and Governor’s salary were just for walking-around money. Even after the $770,000 in taxes he paid, there’s $1.2 million left to spend on hookers. He can go 100 times a year at $5000 and still be rich. Never mind then.

Looking at the Huffington Post pics of the call girls, I should warn everyone that “Drew” is a known Cylon model.

4 Robert Koehler March 11, 2008 at 12:03 pm

Silda Spitzer is pretty hot.

bill clinton II

6 wjk, 검은 머리 외국인 March 11, 2008 at 12:38 pm

but he’s actually lower class than Clinton.

He called a state senator a “senile, old fuck”

and refused to apologize to him.

why’d he say that? Political differences.

things catch up to you. Over time. Under the sun, things like this happen.

New York/New Jersey. Both Democrat governors shamed to their dooms. He did something illegal. Thank the law for that. That’s why certain US laws should stay unchanged. He should be canned. If he insists on innocence, then they might have a chance for getting him for lying under oath. I don’t think he’ll do that, though.

He’ll try his hardest to not resign. In typical fashion.

He’ll probably resign only if the law forces him.

Don’t expect any regime changes. Probably another Democrat will replace this Democrat.

reminds me of another Detroit Democrat mayor who pulled what he pulled today,

only after phone text messages revealed some heat love poems to the public, of course.

Of course.

they all deny it at first.

These are the liberal leadership figures of the United States of America.

if what they did wasn’t illegal, they wouldn’t be subject to purjury, lying to a grand jury, etc.

mix in the baseball cheaters, too.

thank heavens for good laws.

“These are the liberal leadership figures of the United States of America.”

wjk, neither major political party is immune from sex scandals.

Hell, at least the Democrats like to do it with ladies, and spend little time preaching sexual morality to others… As opposed to all of the “family values” crusaders who get their passion for that from being ashamed of themselves for secretly craving to get it on with the boys, which seems to be most of the leadership of the Republican Party…

9 Zonath March 11, 2008 at 1:30 pm

Now now… Let’s not let wjk’s idiotic trolling whip us all up into a froth here. I’m sure there are perfectly honorable public officials from both parties.

Eliot is about to loose his sugar mamma. $170K per year does not go very far compared to his million dollar tastes. If he is skimming, he will end-up (pun intended) getting corn-holed by his new 6’7 black room mate named Turk.

11 Wedge March 11, 2008 at 2:57 pm

Good riddance to this self-aggrandizing anti-capitalist.

‘I’d hit it…’ lawyer

thanks, brenden. nice to know who you’d ‘hit’. and yes, i understand the slang.

well, sex scandals will always be popular news.

does anybody have a clue of what Pawi writes in Chinese and why?

14 Anton March 11, 2008 at 4:08 pm

This is not a usual case of a politician banging some high-priced pros. I typically do not even raise an eyebrow to that sort of thing.

But this Spitzer fellow is such a holier-than-thou, sanctimonious prick that he should f*cking hang for this.

15 Railwaycharm March 11, 2008 at 4:25 pm

The notion that hit me was wifey is standing-by her man (for now) while he is caught out trying to shag high grade whores without a condom? Talk about shitting in your kitchen..

16 Wedge March 11, 2008 at 7:01 pm

He probably hasn’t rogered the missus in a while. She’s not unattractive, but probably has more ice in her veins than Hillary.

17 Alejandro Marivosa March 11, 2008 at 7:36 pm

Someone explain to me why these jerks always want their wives standing next to them, going through complete hell. It just makes you hate the jerks more.

She is playing the victim to produce mitigating circumstances for the husband.

20 gbnhj March 11, 2008 at 8:41 pm

I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself.(Huffington Post)

He disappointed himself? That’s a really pathetic attempt to sidestep the reality of his two-faced bullshit.

What a shmuck. Having had sex with a prostitute could possibly be ‘a private matter’ (although, as a politician in America, that’s far from clear), but using his false morality to step on others in order to advance his political career makes him the piece of crap that he is.

21 slim March 11, 2008 at 9:21 pm

The Wall St Journal is not unhappy:

One might call it Shakespearian if there were a shred of nobleness in the story of Eliot Spitzer’s fall. There is none. Governor Spitzer, who made his career by specializing in not just the prosecution, but the ruin, of other men, is himself almost certainly ruined.

22 JW March 11, 2008 at 10:21 pm

Am I the only one who thinks its amazing that the guy was willing to risk his high powered career and crime fighting legacy for a piece of ass? (admittedly it is expensive quality ass, which I am thoroughly jealous over) But still, couldn’t he find less risky ways to get action if his wife wasn’t giving him any? Isn’t this guy supposed to be really really smart?

Befuddling.

23 slim March 11, 2008 at 11:17 pm

Who among us can honestly say that he hasn’t, in a moment of weakness or boredom, reached out to a $5,000 call girl?

24 Sonagi March 12, 2008 at 12:57 am

@#22:

Risk takers like Spitzer do so because they enjoy the thrills that come with risks and because they don’t think they’re going to get caught.

25 Netizen Kim March 12, 2008 at 5:59 am

I first heard of the name Eliot Spitzer when I was in college during the 90s. He had prosecuted my former HS physics teacher, Peter Melzer, member of NAMBLA, for pedophilia.

26 gbnhj March 12, 2008 at 6:30 am

Wait – are you saying that Spitzer is therefore interested in little boys? I really only think he was doing his job in that situation, and probably had no personal interest in the strange. If he had, however, perhaps he ought to have recused himself from involvement in that case.

27 Sisyphus March 12, 2008 at 9:31 am

well i guess that’s one less Superdelegate for Billary

28 Korea Beat March 12, 2008 at 10:03 am

Interesting that Spitzer’s name leaked out of the DOJ a week after arrests were made, but still no leaks about David Vitter despite being implicated by the DC Madam… oh, Vitter is a Republican. I await everyone’s calls for him to resign in disgrace. It has been over half a year already.

29 Wedge March 12, 2008 at 10:08 am

#28: Maybe because one guy is a famous hypocrite and the other nobody ever heard of?

30 user-81 March 12, 2008 at 10:25 am

#29, David Vitter is a U.S. senator who supports abstinence-only education.

31 Brendon Carr (Korea Law Blog) March 12, 2008 at 11:18 am

Vitter still hasn’t resigned?

32 vicki March 12, 2008 at 11:24 am

#16…How do you know she has ice in her veins? She didn’t strike me that way at all. And even if she were ice her husband had no right to cheat on her. The least he could have done was to divorce her so she wasn’t living a lie.

33 vicki March 12, 2008 at 11:37 am

#19…What mitigating circumstances? Who knows why she subjected herself to such humilation. Theres no way on earth that I would stand next to a man that had been cheating on me with prostitues for over 5 years… Noooo way. She’s probably confused right now and totally lost. Shes got a family thats probably watching all of this. Maybe she stood next to him during the press conference for her childrens sake? Maybe she didn’t know the full details of her husbands little mishaps? If a person feels the need to fill that great big spot in his life with some hooker, the very least he could do is divorce his wife and let her get on with her life. Why waste HER time?

34 Maddlew March 12, 2008 at 12:58 pm

Vicki, you know for his job he probably wanted the intelligent, attractive woman who would not be out of her league running with whoever might show up at his country club or these political gigs which are the meat and potatoes of politics. At night perhaps his tastes ran toward the Hungarian gymnast. I would like to get one of these guys’ spin on how they rationalize it in their own heads.

35 vicki March 12, 2008 at 2:26 pm

Maddlew, I don’t think you need to talk to “one of these guys” because you probably have the answer. I just never thought that somebody would marry another like he was buying a toaster or something? What in the world? What the heck? Well. no politicians in my future… (as if) Thanks for the thoughts.

36 colontos March 14, 2008 at 9:28 am

Yes, Marmot, Korea is clearly superior to America because they do not mind their leaders having sex with prostitutes.

I’m fairly sure that being “reassured” by a leader “getting laid,” as you so eloquently put it, is far, far less mature than being troubled by it.

37 Robert Koehler March 14, 2008 at 10:16 am

Yes, Marmot, Korea is clearly superior to America because they do not mind their leaders having sex with prostitutes.

Well, that’s just one reason, yes.
