Smoke detectors at Indigo, Sat. eve.:

Mrs. Linkd and I have purchased 40 smoke detectors. We’re keeping one.

The other 39 we are entrusting to a diligent young woman named Jade. Jade will be at Indigo in Haebangchon tonight - Saturday - from 6 pm. If you walk up to her and give her some money for Bill’s care, she will give you a smoke detector, battery included.

We hope that they all find good homes, and never have to do their jobs. Please drop by and pick one up.

Our prayers are with Bill and his family, and we wish them the best on the difficult journey that lies ahead of them.

Link’d, a simple act of eloquence. Mad props!
Has anyone been following this Mike Cho thing from La Habra? It’s really got the Korean community in LA riled up. I believe Mike spent some time in Korea between his graduation in UCLA and this incident that unfortunately cost him his life. All I can say is there’s a big difference between law-enforcement in the States as opposed to here and maybe Mike was too fresh from his stint in Korea.
I don’t think some Koreans realize how serious the police in the States are. They won’t stand there and trade shoves with you. If they tell you to strip naked, you strip naked. You ARE guilty until you can show that you’re not packing. “Well, in Korea I can hold onto the tire iron until I’ve told the police exactly why I’ve been using it on all the car windows in the area. I don’t have to pull over when police rooftop lights are flashing cause they’re always flashing. I can make a right hand turn from the left lane.” That was not Korea, señor.
I feel bad for the guy, he seemed to have a bright future. But if he had a beef, the street he was standing in with police officers around him, guns drawn, was absolutely the wrong venue. That is very seriously a no-win situation. I promise.
Get a lawyer and take them to court.

Here is a good article with na embedded vid!

#5 but you are right, look the cops say do it just do it! Why even contemplate chancing someone with a gun? I am sure the cops really don’t want to kill people, so when they do, there has to be some event that triggers (no pun intended) the shootings!

As for open forum, seems like Barrack flip-flopping has begun on issues. You have to admit that there is more than enough to question the FTA/Canada issue and in addition pulling troops out of Iraq campaign bull crap/compared to his real plan and ability to pull them out.

Far from change if you ask me.

It’s probably true that most cops on America “don’t really want to kill people.” But I believe their training and culture causes many violent incidents that would otherwise be non-violent incidents.

How is it that police forces in many countries of the world arrest suspects without forcing them to do crazy, humiliating shit, but here in Americana, they have to do it? How is it that police forces in many countries do not routinely threaten citizens with deadly force?

I have seen citizens willing to cooperate, willing to get in the cop car, but, no, first you have to be treated like shit, to submit to something akin to what happened to Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction. Get down on your knees. Spread your legs. Crawl toward me.

Gee, I wonder why some citizens start to freak out about such treatment. I agree with you lot, however. No matter what the police do, or how they treat us, or what kind of near-kinky-sex-like acts they force us to perform, we must submit! We must submit for the sake of public safety! We must submit so that they can protect us!

‘How is it that police forces in many countries of the world arrest suspects without forcing them …’

because american culture is predicated on violence and domination. if you understand that, you understand the cops in this country. you foreigners thinking of coming here would do well to never fuck with them since they’re, by and large, a nasty bunch and have the law on their side.

if they shoot and kill you, they’ll get away with it by simply saying they thought you were pulling out a weapon. that’s even more true when cops kill americans of color. they almost always get away with it. don’t ever mess with the police in this country.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

over at the atimes, they’ve decided to take their credibility down a notch by featuring a ‘reporter’ from some rag called ‘the asia sex times’ or something to that effect.
to me, it’s a wrong move becuse the subject matter really has no place in a serious news journal. still further, the fact that the reporter in question is a white guy automatically makes me suspicious of anything he says because of his predictabilty. what will see here a constant portrayel of asian men as puffs and asian women as desperate to have a white guy. the first ‘article’ doesn’t disappoint.

did you know that japan’s declning birth rate is the fault of japanese men who, according to the article, are more interested in masturbation than women? and how would you know this? well, you would know it because ’studies have said…’ and ‘a japanese guy once told me…’. that’s how you would know it.

the atimes has made a mistake here in two ways: one, the topic is not appropriate and two, the reporter isn’t either.

anytime some white guy in asia struck with asianitis starts talking about the sexual mores of asians, you’ll see the same tired themes over and over again. asian man poof! i real man! asian woman want me! i your black man! ooga ooga! his psychology on full display.

    the atimes should reconsider.

Walking away from cops who have their firearms pointed at him? A caller who said he looked agitated? Could this be a case of ’suicide by cops’?

Regarding Michael Cho, I don’t know, I can kind of see it both ways. On one side, a guy using a lead pipe to bash in windows, so he’s not afraid to use it and a lead pipe, if it hits you in the head, can kill you. So that would classify it as a deadly weapon.

However, they did pump 10 bullets into Cho. Why I have no idea. It does seem a little excessive by the La Habra Police. I have no idea why they were not armed with tasers or stun guns. That incident should of been more like this:

Please, you can be white and police in the States are still a-holes.
I was driving to work in OC on the 55 fwy through Costa Mesa and got pulled over. My car was an 89, white Nissan Sentra. As generic as they come. I stopped and put my hands on the wheel cause I don’t want them to have even an inkling that I’m arming myself or disposing of evidence. That’s what you do if you’re smart.
I knew I was in for some fun when I saw in the mirror they had their guns drawn and were using the loudspeaker to tell me, “roll down your window and put both hands through so we can see them”. I did what I was told. They told me to use the latch on the outside of my vehicle to open the door and get out, all the time keeping my hands in plain view. The told me to put both hands interlocked behind my head and suddenly a state troopers knee was in my crotch and he was cuffing me. He then threw me onto the hood of my car, leaving a fairly good sized dent and leaning a fore-arm into the middle of my back. We stayed that way until they’d thoroughly searched my car and ascertained that I wasn’t who they were looking for. They took off my cuffs and I asked them if they would pay for the dent? They said no. I asked if they would call my boss to let him know why I was running late? No. They told me I’d appreciate their style of response if it were my car that was stolen. I told them I would appreciate if it were me in that situation that they didn’t take perfectly innocent people and treat them like criminals. I’m insured. Now I didn’t start mouthing off until they were well aware that I was unarmed and not a threat.
Watch Mike Cho’s video. I guarantee you there wasn’t silence. I know they were telling him to do things or they would shoot. The first I saw of it was on Korean news so I had no idea this guy was dead when it started. But when I saw his lack of reaction and his manner I knew he was dead. Ignore their directions at your own peril.

#8 - I don’t know, as tends to be the case, what your hateful race-obsessed tripe has to do with this unfortunate shooting. If this turns out to be an unnecessary use of police force, it is wrong/a tragedy, regardless of race or ethnicity. If cops are rotten, I don’t care what “tribe” they happen to belong to or who they’ve wronged. Can you say the same?

#10 - It isn’t a great idea to mess around with the police in Canada either, regardless of whatever skin tone you happen to possess. Whenever I’ve gotten pulled over, I put my hands on the steering wheel, addressed the officer as “Sir”, and generally things worked out alright. (Not that things should go bad, but they can.) I’ve been a witness to plenty of cases where people get slammed to the ground harder than is necessary (if necessary at all to begin with), or get their head deliberately bashed on the car as they are put in the back seat.

I saw a police officer in Quebec slap a teen to the ground for being told to, “Fuck off.” Had a friend who was arrested for public intoxication who was told to shut up or his nose would be broken. The people in question did not act wisely, but the police response in each case was excessive, not to mention illegal.

I have a couple of friend who are cops. These guys have a tough job, and have to deal with some really bad people, but it doesn’t excuse excessive force or abuse of power.

This radio interview of the current governor of Montana is a hoot! He tells NPR just what he thinks of the government in Washington trying to force his state to spend millions of state money on an ID system (Real ID) that is fallible. As per the interview:

. . . We ignore ‘em (Feds) for as long as we can. We try not to bring it to a head but if it comes to a head we found that it’s best to tell ‘em to go to Hell and run the state you wanna run your state.

Listen, Canadian and American cops have become para-military violent arseholes, by and large. My pops grew up in a rough and tumble N. Ontario town, and back then in the 50’s and 60’s, the cops were tough but they would also listen and treat people with respect. He said they used to argue and differ with the cops, mostly they would laugh and say “aw, shuttup”. But they would listen. He remembers the cops showing up at his neighbors place, and the neighbor drunkenly telling them to fuck the hell off his property, and the cops did.

I blame it on Hollywood, and a very Korean-like cop mentality. Is there any damn job that freaking whines, complains and feels sorry for themselves more than North American cops? 2000 miners die a year in Canada, but let a cop die and they act like the world is ending. Fucking pussies.

Cops used to be part of neighborhoods, and defenders of neighborhoods, but now they are just cunts. Bullying, abusive, violent bastards. Police, these days.

When US cops stop your car and pull you over, they are
1/ assuming you have a gun
2/ assuming you have illegal drugs

this one pussy cop, never let his right hand off his gun, while he was talking to me in broad day light.

An East Asian 40 year old woman driver with 3 school children in the back seat.

Pussy cop wants to search for drugs in the trunk.

Fear for your life, pussy cop.

some guy hit my mother’s car from the behind, because he was too drunk to stop on time. He took off.

Cop car from behind. About 1 minute later. By chance !

I give him the plate number.

Cop says I have to come to the station and file a police report.

    are you kidding me?

He won’t even write the number down.

I don’t care about overpaying city cops and public school teachers. Most of them do a bad job.

is your car being stolen? How about your store?

takes 20 minutes or more for help to arrive.

You better exercise your right to bear arms. It’s honestly quicker.

A bank robbery? Now, that brings in the swat team. Why?

I don’t think what #8 wrote was related to race. #8 asked “How is it that police forces in many countries do not routinely threaten citizens with deadly force?” US cops versus citizens, not white cops versus nonwhite citizens. Even pawi in #9 was talking about cops versus citizens without talking about race (I guess he’s really trying).

Do you remember that guy in St. George, Missouri that had the video cam setup to transmit to a vcr in his house?

    http://video.google.com/google.....&hl=en

That cop was fired. This was the guy’s second time being harassed. He received $60K the both times. When I get back to the states I’m getting a cam installed.

The other thing is that cops try to get you to agree to searches. Questions like: Do you mind if I take a look in your car? Yes (go ahead?) or No (I don’t mind?) Just say that you don’t consent and if they still do it, it makes your case stronger if you decide to file.

Also, isn’t there some court case where cops can only initially frisk you to search for weapons? You know to keep themselves safe? They can’t really pull out your little baggie of weed, in your pocket, and if they do, it can be thrown out as illegally gotten evidence. They’d have to have a reason, like visually seeing a pipe, no?

Ok, I’m stepping out of bounds here. Mr. Carr, am I talking out of my rear? Yeah, I’ve been reading kooky websites.
