Where to Satisfy That Craving for Endangered Species in Korea

For two months running now, the Joong-Ang has printed articles lamenting the depletion of certain marine life, only to then accompany that article with a list of recommended restaurants where the reader might avail him or herself of dishes made with that species.

Can’t wait to here the bullshit excuses for this one.

Hmm…let’s see I can here it now

    “Americans do it too!”

“Expats should mind their own business, here is Korea”

    “You are just being racist”

    “The_____do it all the time”

All these excuses make it ok to do this kinda thing. You’ll never hear them admit that they do do it and it’s wrong.

It’s amazing to see that when you read the Marmot’s Hole, there are always going to be some generalizations made about Koreans in the comments section.

    #1,

    Read number 3.

    @3

Your comment is quite predictable as well.

Anyways, reminded me of some show I saw way back when…it was an outdoors type show. They had a segment on hunting and the dialog was quite humorous in a sick sort of way.

“Ahh…look over there. There she is…beautiful, beautiful animal…”

    *BANG*

Public education and awareness of these issues is lacking. More “gates” will burn without positive political guidance and responsible social action on the part of Koreans.

I agree with #3, but #1 also has a point.

People who have been here more than a couple of years have heard those types of comments at some point.

    How many people haven’t?

    Cry me a river #3 and #4

I learned this directly from Koreans themselves. It’s all based on what they taught me personally, on this blog and in their media.

If you or they don’t like it too bad, I’m doing what they want me to do which is to be like them.

Gotta problem with that, talk to them. When in Rome after all.

They get what they give. And they do plenty of giving, or haven’t you read the papers over the last six years?

    #9,

No, no, no. I meant that #3 was essentially making one of the “bullshit excuses” that you were talking about.

Beluga muktuk is fine eating (and not endangered in the Hudson’s Bay, by any means). In my family, it’s reserved for Christmas Eve, something I’ve missed for the past 6 years.

The whale meat for sale at the the festival food courts look rancid–they’ve probably been sitting there for weeks.

With the amount of sam gyup sal I ate the last time I was in Korea, I was on the way to becoming an endangered species… ;-)
