Circumcision Has a Short History in Korea

Over at the Coming Anarchy, Curzon has posted on the history of circumcision around the world. Introduced to Korea after WWII apparently by Americans, circumcision has become the norm with over 90% of high school boys having undergone the procedure as children, not infants. Find out why here at this most definitely NSFW link. The complete journal article (with no images) summarized in the first link can be found here.

If anyone’s further interested in the subject, you can download a pdf of a 2002 article entitled “Knowledge and attitudes of Korean parents towards their son’s circumcision: a nationwide questionnaire study” from the same journal by clicking on the link below:

“Circumcision Has a Short History in Korea”

Now that wouldn’t be a pun would it?
Seriously, I’ve known a few moiles. Not bad work if you can get it. $20 an hour plus tips…

A woman from the Midwest was visiting New York City for the first time and took a walk through a Jewish part of the city. Well, while she was there she noticed that her watch had broken. She looked around for a place to get it repaired. All of the signs were in Yiddish, but she saw a store with a bunch of clocks and watches in the window, so she went in.

She said to the distinguished old man behind the counter, “Could you fix my watch for me, please?”

The man said “I don’t fix watches. I’m a moile; I perform circumcisions.”

The lady said, “Then why do you have all of those clocks and watches in your store window?”

The moile said, “And what should I have in my window, then?”

None of the articles state why they wait until the child is pre-pubescent to perform the circumcision. Is there a medical reason? It seems less sadistic to do it while the child is still an infant, before self-awareness kicks in and the sensitivity of that particular region of the anatomy is fully grasped. I myself prefer to keep sharp instruments away from the genitalia at all costs.

circumcision is on the decline in this country since there is no medical need for it.

and don’t bother with the penile cancer crap; the rates are no different in europe and asia.

For those upset with the procedure, don’t worry. You can always use Tug Ahoy — “The World’s Best Foreskin Restoration Device”. You have to see it to believe it.

“Tug-Ahoy”? Seriously, the only thing weaker than complaining about your circumcised penis is going to all of the trouble to form a new one.

I don’t get why they aren’t doing it when they are infants either. Wasn’t the whole point of circumcision because kids didn’t clean their equipment properly? Seems pointless doing it to them when they are old enough to make their own lunch.

Here’s an interesting extract from one of the links on why to circumcise:

Of 145 new mothers of sons responding to this survey, 71-83% preferred circumcised penises for each sexual activity listed. Visual appeal and sexual hygiene were predominate reasons for favoring circumcised sexual partners. Even among women having sexual experience only with uncircumcised partners, only half preferred uncircumcised penises for sexual partners.

    @10 and the first link…

Give the lady guest-posting privileges and in the first week there is a post to a direct link to Asian boy porn. Great…

Revenge for all of those despised retouched T&A pictures of surgically altered beautiful women that have been showing up here lately?

@4 I asked a Korean about this before, and he told me that it’s dangerous to snip at the lil thing at birth, and told me the very very scary scary story about his uncle who’d been… “over-circumsized” at birth. He said it’s safer to wait until the teen years since there is a more to work with.

“Russian dog,” says my waitress Nancy.

    “Big dog,” I reply.

“Yes,” she says. “Big dog’s penis…”

We are in a cosy restaurant in a dark street in Beijing but my appetite seems to have gone for a stroll outside.

Nancy has brought out a whole selection of delicacies.

They are draped awkwardly across a huge platter, with a crocodile carved out of a carrot as the centrepiece.

Nestling beside the dog’s penis are its clammy testicles, and beside that a giant salami-shaped object.

“Donkey,” says Nancy. “Good for the skin…”

She guides me round the penis platter.

“Snake. Very potent. They have two penises each.”

    I did not know that.

Apparently, they are low in cholesterol and good, not just for boosting the male sex drive, but for treating all sorts of ailments.

Laughter trickles through the walls of our dining room.

“Government officials,” says Nancy. “Two of them upstairs. They’re having the penis hotpot.”

I was circumcised in the United States by a Korean American doctor. It was extremely painful. Extremely. I still remember the moment when… *censored*. And I feel no shame about it, neither should my sons. They all shall have circumcision, for it is a sacred ritual to K-Manhood. But circumcising them as a baby is plain cruelty, and I believe it should be banned. Pain is only meaningful to those who can appreciate the meaning.

…which dates from the 1940’s and could be seen as a product of American cultural imperialism.

My wife is Korean, and it took me awhile to convince her that circumcision is a scam. I didn’t believe her when she said most Korean men are cut until I wore my glasses in a 목욕탕. When I told my brother-in-law, who got circumcised around 3rd grade, that our son wouldn’t be sliced, his reaction was “they still do that shit in USA?”
