Jeonbuk University is in the spotlight again after photos showing its students hazing freshmen surfaced in Kuki News.
The same university gained a bit of notoriety last year after students in the Sports Science Department forced its freshmen to stand and sing at one of its main gates, in the rain, while only clad in their underwear. The girls however were allowed to keep their clothes on except for jackets and coats.
When asked about this a student stated that “as far as he knows severe hazing has disappeared, but that some clubs might be still doing light hazing for fun.” Fun for the people meting out the hazing but for those at the receiving end…….

Wow, they made them do bridges and/or pushups fully clothed. How awful!
On Tuesday, some groups of students were doing this exact very thing in front of my department building. I was offended because they were so damn noisy!
In between the push ups they kept making them sing and do the “Tell Me” dance over and over again.
It was annoying as hell!
Now we’re talking ’bout real torture.
Ah, yes… Jeonbuk Dae…
That was the best neighborhood in Jeonju to down a few (dozen) beers on a Friday night.
Small wonder.
Ah, the good ol’days. I’m completely for college hazing, so far as it’s not too harsh to the point that it would cause significant injuries. And, from the looks of it, hazing at Jeonbuk University don’t seem to so harsh. But singing in your underware gotta suck, though it’s not physically challenging at all.
Anyways, I believe hazing is an important part of college life, and it should not be discontinued.
Nothing can beat shocking “Naked graduation ceremony” by some school kids.
Come on mins, have you lost your
bashingcynicalcritical taste on Korean society?Ha ha very funny. Actually no, but there isn’t anything “critical/cynical/bashing” about this particular subject.
In America this is what the political far-left would call “TORTURE.”
A few pushups is torture to a generation of kids who were spoiled by their parents, kids who will only lift a finger to left-click on the mouse.
