The funny thing is, can a Korean woman act like her without sociological condemnation or a serious loss of face? I think not.

But… she’s a “ru-sho” and not Korean so society tolerates her behavior and watches her perform kinda like seeing a Panda in a cage play with her marshmellow.

A panda in a cage play with her marshmallow? Where the hell did that analogy come from? Stunning imagery, really.

Actually, since you brought up “ru-shos” and cages, I couldn’t help but remember this:

    Rob,

Don’t get too excited as it’s not a sexual analogy. Pandas are just the wrong animal to make overtly sexual analogies with. They are essentially asexual 98% of the time.

Anyways, I got the imagery from a former Mormon missionary in Japan turned actor. He’s a white guy with blond hair who can speak perfect Japanese and he was making great money as an actor in Japanese comedies in the late 90’s. He said that the Japanese viewed foreigners who can speak perfect Japanese on television as Pandas in a cage that are gawked at and laughed at when they play with their marshmellow before they eat it.

Yeah, deforestation. When a species is faced with competition (in the case of pandas, the competition comes from humans), it has three things it can do: 1) adapt to the change 2) change environment 3) become extinct. Pandas only eat bamboo, so that pretty much limits their options.

As for the non sequitur charge, well, the Marmot is a U.S. citizen who majored in PoliSci, and the U.S. is South Korea’s most important ally in the world politically, economically and culturally. Of course he’s paying attention to the U.S. presidential race, and of course it affects Korea.

Whether one’s a gay or staight, I could care less if he is honest and truthful. However, there’s no more of a hypocritical snot than one who hides behind a facade, ie Larry Craig, Mark Foley. Besides unless you’re running for an office in/out of SF, Mass, Atlanta, and a few other places, you’re committing a political suicide if you admit being a bi-sexual. Do you think Obama is that naive especially when he has such a high ambition? If so, you’re more naive than I thought.

Next, if a politician’s rotting mouth is capable of admitting using illict drugs, that means, he did and then some. The fact of the matter, when, where and how it will be revealed. Only time will tell.

Obama probably exaggerated past drug use for dramatic effect in his biography. Here’s a NY Times article on the subect:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02.....obama.html

As for claims of experience, the quality of the experience is as important as the quantity - and Hillary’s pledge to continue fighting Republicans isn’t going to get us very far. Obama does a good job of persuading opponents, rather than villifying them, and has run a solid and well organized campaign. And I have no problem with electing someone from outside the centers of power in Washington DC. Mr. Maverick McCain is probably the Republican I find least objectionable, although he’s apparently moved to the right in economic policy in order to get the nomination. He has some major hurdles though - Bush jr’s recession has thoroughly discredited laissez faire economics, and continued violence in Iraq exposes his vulnerabilities in supporting an unpopular foreign policy. Neither of those issues is likely to improve much in the next year. This also explains why turnout for Democratic primaries is running way of Republican primaries. And, as the Obama/Hillary competition has shown, a policy centered on change will beat one touting experience.

Someguy, I agree that the real issues should be the focus of an election. In Canada a prospective prime minister also does not have to make a show of attending church and talking about his/her faith to have a hope (a prayer?) of getting elected. Not so in the United States.

Interesting that she should be held up as such an ideal of womanhood on national TV. I believe that as soon as Korean TV PDs can manufacture cyborg sex dolls that know how to coo “Oppa” kittenishly, they won’t even bother trying to deal with real woman any more, because they don’t actually like or respect real women.

i’ve noticed the expat seems to go nuts everytime marm puts up a post about a misuda girl. wanna know why? their angry reaction ain’t about the girl, it’s about the korean guy. that’s the real answer.

but then , when isn’t it about the korean guy when it comes to the expat?

I would vote for a black guy, a lady, a former (maybe even current) drug user, a Muslim, Mormon, Catholic or Jew, an atheist, or even a (gasp!) homosexual before I would vote for a socialist. That’s the kind of conservative I am.

    Was that about me?

No, the self-professed lay-about, King Bug.

Pawi, your reading skills, like your crackpot theories, are a joke. Go back and reread my first couple of comments on this thread, why don’t you?

I’m old, expat and just don’t give a fuck — your worst nightmare, Pawi!

I wonder how many American expats over here will even bother to vote….very few I expect, hopefully they are Democrats

I don’t need someone spending my money for me, when I can spend it in a pub….

    McCain in 08!

Like Ha Ri-su (who used to be a working girl herself), Djamilya is an archetype of the Shinsa-dong/Nonhyon-dong school of room-salon girls, from her behavior to her look.

So if I went to a room salon I’d be paying a girl to act like this with me?

  80. Posted February 21, 2008 at 1:41 pm | Permalink

“So if I went to a room salon I’d be paying a girl to act like this with me?”

Yes, and the key word here is “act.”

Think of it as kind of like the Korean equivalent of a frat party, except it’s quite a bit more expensive and everyone’s quite a bit older, too.

    King Baeksu,

Be sure to look me up when you get to the state if you need a job. It pays better than your babysitting job in Korea. Actually, I grad. from same grad. school as Brenden Carr in Seattle. I do work and own a financial serv business w/ multi-mil dollar accounts.

Btw, I did attend Obama’s $1,000 plate fundraiser, a few days ago in here town. Trust the truth will come out soon.

It already has and her name is Vicki Iseman.

I’m self-employed but thanks for the job offer nonetheless.

Dear Vicki, if you’re going to act like you’re more intelligent than Djamilya, try asking more intelligent questions.

Is it possible that just looking at this woman makes people brainless?

I’m sure William will provide a YouTube link shortly as incontrovertible proof.

Vicki, it’s just possible that they may offer free remedial reading classes at your local YWCA.

As William has already noted, I am clearly gay!
