Going on Vacation

The thought had been going through my head for quite some time now, but what made it final was what my wife said after she caught me looking at the Hole.  It was the day off, there wasn’t anything to do, nothing good on TV after “Heroes” on AFN-K, so while I was taking a quick look at the Hole my wife simply said “You are addicted to it.”  Addicted?  Well, I wouldn’t call it that, but on the other hand…. yeah I have been spending way more time here than I was supposed to.  That and posting at the Hole isn’t as fun as it used to be.  I remember when I started posting last summer, there will be a story that interested me and I would clip it with a sentence or two on how I felt about that certain issue.  Then comments will follow and yes there will be disagreements but that was pretty much it.  It was fun, and a break from the grind of the real world.  Now, it’s more of the opposite lately and one wonders whether it’s worth the investment in time.  So with the two factors in mind, I’ve decided that it’s time to take a break and concentrate more on the offline aspects of my life, which I have to admit, other than  work, has gotten a bit more fun lately.  (Yup, I can hear the gyopos celebrating already)  And just in time for the trip to Onyang Hot Springs and the opportunity to soak in hot spring water.  Although I won’t be posting, I’ll occasionally drop by and comment on stuff that interests me.

Anyways before I go I would like to thank Robert for giving me the opportunity to post here.  I have a feeling that he wasn’t happy with some of the things I’ve posted, and for that I would like to thank him again for bearing with me during the seven months I’ve been posting.  Also to my fellow guest bloggers, keep up the good work and to some of the commentators whom I’ve had the pleasure to know, keep on rocking.

I still think ‘your dumb korean co-worker story of the day’ posts served no purpose other than to encourage ‘wow koreans are so dumb!’ type of responses. But I must say I did enjoy reading your cynical take on the Korean pop culture. Have fun in Onyang!

Was my comment on guest bloggers removed? I’m sorry if it seemed meanspirited, because I just meant to say that no one does balanced and informative analysis like the Marmot himself.

Don’t post many comments here, but I have enjoyed your posts here over the months, and will miss them. On the other hand, there is life offline, or so the oracle at Delphi once said.

Too bad for us; you’re one of the few writers consistently worth reading.

Mins, I hope you get a chance to rest up, recharge and really enjoy yourself on vacation. I also hope that you’ll continue to blog here, as your threads have provided the Hole with fresh content on topics often not otherwise covered.

I am no hater of things Korean, quite the opposite, yet I have appreciated considering your views, even when I haven’t agreed with them. It’s regrettable that your simple act of challenging viewpoints has drawn criticism from some, but though loud they are few in number. None of us is perfect (not even your critics), and taking on the task of blogging here is a challenge you’ve handled much better than most. Notice that your critics have not taken up Robert’s repeated offers for additional bloggers - perhaps that says something as well.

Good luck to you, and I hope we see you back here soon.

Someone has to cover the Korean defense and aerospace world, so I hope you reconsider and at least post on that topic from time to time. Anyway, don’t let the negativity get you down. You have posted some good stuff.

Enjoy that Onyang bulgogi while you’re down there.

I also found the posts on the defense arena informative.

    onyang is a great on-chun.

Mins, you are a true Korean.

after all, you LIVE in South Korea, yet have English skills of a gyopo.

with the mindset of an expat. US Gyopos are unworthy, 2nd class Koreans compared to you. We don’t pay taxes to Korea.

who else would comment about Jae-Gong-Ho? Or the chopper you see on M.A.S.H?

Only, mins. One of a kind.

For those who have posted supporting words, thank you very much.

Although I have stated that I am going on vacation and won’t be posting, but, since some commentators are requesting it, I may decide to post issues that are not covered by the other posters here. However I cannot say when that’ll be.

Enjoy the rest of the week! It’ll be tough for those who are going to work today after a long holiday.
