Last call for Super “Tuesday” lunch

OK, this is the last time you will hear this from me.

The Super Tuesday (Wednesday, Korean time) lunch will be tomorrow from 11:00 to 3:00 at the VFW Canteen near Noksapyeong Station.  It is open for anyone interested in American politics, drinking beer or both.

Here are directions and maps.

Right now, it looks like we will only have 8-10 folks there but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

(I will get back to regular blogging with my next post.)

i have a question about http://www.lostnomad.org/ … do you know what happened? i was there early december and wanted to take a look mid january but the site was completly gone? google can’t find any stories related to the dissapearance either.
considering he had quite a number of active readers, this disturbs me a bit …

Cool! As long as someone else has hijacked a dead thread - here’s a scrape that I found oddly humorous. We’ll see whether the lawyer busts me for it (and have a good time with your Super Tuesday, migooks!):

Hoping that you could provide more details, given your comment that salary was lower in Korea. I’ve heard that some experienced foreign legal consultants (especially US ones) receive fairly high salaries at some Korean firms (probably the larger ones). However, whether due to person given as example (no/little experience), source of info (friend of a cousin of a friend) or salaries quoted (no offense, but can’t imagine Korean firms paying the insane NYC scale), I’ve always been dubious but could not locate any material on this issue. What can a foreign legal consultant expect from a large Korean firm if (1) newly-admitted with no experience, (2) 3-6 years of solid experience, and (3) 7+ years of experience? For convenience, let’s assume that candidate graduated from upper-tier law school (but not Harvard/Yale - Koreans still blinded by this), and has fairly sophiticated corporate/finance law experience from a reputable NYC firm (vs. general practice at small firm). Not looking for hard figures - general estimates would be appreciated.

Good luck finding answers to that one! If you can get me the salary survey information I’d be glad to post at Korea Law Blog. But frankly, from my perspective the variability of compensation is so great that the data is almost worthless.

X-D Did anyone hear what happened in the West Virginia “caucus”? Absolute political hilarity.

I don’t see why not. It’s not an unfair question to try to figure out whether you’re being paid “fairly” — except that I would define “fair” as being whatever the candidate and the law firm agreed. Anyway, the starting salary wherever one goes is just a foot in the door. A kid who enters the market at a “low” salary and finds himself still making basically the same amount two years later is doing something wrong, or he’s being fairly paid.

As I am still undecided between Clinton and Obama, I am happy to see from the early results that voters in future primaries will still have a choice. Oh yeah, and there are some Republicans still running, aren’t there?
