MCNBC’s Roland Jones takes a look at Korea’s bold move into the Brave New World of the US luxury car market. The money shot, though, is this:
Mark Rechtin of trade publication Automotive News referred to the “scary-good Koreans” at the show and singled out the Hyundai Genesis, a new rear-wheel-drive, full-size luxury sedan due to go on sale this year.
“Can someone explain to me how an engineer chained to his desk in Ulsan can create a better Buick than a team of guys in Detroit?” Rechtin wrote. “The Hyundai Genesis’ performance and interior quality could turn the near-luxury sedan segment on its ear. If dealers can convince Americans to shell out 35 grand for a rear-drive V-8 Hyundai with leather everything, look out. Same goes for the Kia Borrego and the full-sized SUV segment.”
Great news for Hyundai… hopefully. Still, I’m waiting for a Korean semiconductor trade journal to pen a line like, “Can someone tell me how some Intel engineer in Silicon Valley can create a better chip between his hamburger and cocaine breaks than a team of guys in Suwon?”

That would never happen.
Intel and Samsung make totally different chips. Intel bailed out of the RAM business sometime in like the 80s, only to become wildy successful in the processor market. In the mean time, Samsung siezed the memory sector.
They’re #1, #2 in semiconductor company ranking by sales.

Probably more like Pastrami on Rye and … maybe Coke if it’s kosher.

…and why not a kosher hamburger?
Yay for Hyundai! (I work for them so my support is 100%!
Notwithstanding, I do like the Genesis’ design, inside and out. If I had the dough I’d certainly buy one of these ladies.
Now, if only I can drive them as fast as I could on a public racetrack (note: not the highway)….
I have to say, that is one sharp looking car!

I was confused by this sentence for a moment. The guy actually wrote it as if a Buick was a great car.
Is there any chance Hyundai is planning to eventually spin off the ‘Genesis brand’ as a high-end make like Lexus or Infiniti once it has achieved a few years of positive attention and name-brand recognition?
Does this mean Hyundai is not a Japanese company?
Hyundai’s to air its first Superbowl ads in 19 years:

From a crap car that no one liked to the Sonata and now the Genesis. If this car is anything like I think it is, I am gonna get one and not look back. M-B luxe at an affordable price? No brainer here. Kudos to the folks at Hyundai.
