Music video of SES’s single “U” released way back in 2000, with scenes showing the members tormenting white guys. Now that I think about it I remember reading an editorial in the Korea Times or Herald, where the non-Korean contributor stated that he (she?) was disturbed when he (she?) watched the video.

Talk about “way back when”!
I remember when this video came out. There was a mini-controversy about it wondering if SES was anti-foreigner and if this was some kind of sign that Koreans should be fighting against “bad foreigners” more.
Well, nothing much came of it. It was soon forgotten.
One must realize that the SES members most likely had nothing to do with the creation of the video. My bet is absolutely nothing!
These girl/boy groups are nothing but dancing/lip synching marrionettes(sp?) who are totally trained and controlled by the entertainment companies.
These companies decide what gets sung, danced, and what gets shown on stage and in the video. They decide based on what they think the public- teen and preteen aged girls & boys- want to see & hear. Basically, what will make them the most money.
I guess at this time, the company guessed that teeny bopper fans wanted to see SES kickin’ arse on a bunch of dirty furriners!
Luckily, it didn’t really become a trend!
The irony of making a video like that for a group that routinely used English in its songs (to appear more international nonetheless) must have escaped everyone involved.
Dreams Come True.
SomeguyinKorea, maybe the should have covered “Isn’t it ironic?”!
Back in ‘98 the girls at my middle school would loudly sing SES- “Cuz Im your girl, hold me baby!” to the male teachers.
It was quite uncomfortable!
Back then, SES were good looking. I admit to having had a few impure thoughts about them, especially Bada.
Now, the way she f***ed up her face, I wouldn’t touch her with Pawi’s snake!
wow… I miss S.E.S. And Finkl.
Is it just me or did that poker-playing cowboy mouth the F-word when she showed him that extra card?
Most farfetched is Samsung’s Anycall commercial where whitey is freed from 1984 by K-pop.
I talk/play/love. Thanks, chums.
#7,
So, I guess the former-Disney/Nickelodeon-teen bubblegum pop has found it’s way into K-pop.

So, I guess the genre of pop music that is performed by former Disney/Nickelodeon teens has found it’s way into Korea.
Yeah, I have to really wonder about Bada’s management because they seem pretty feckless.
This should be the theme song for the Korean government 1945 to present. The English chorus expresses their wishes so well.
Oh, and white men are the devil and represent everything wrong with the world.
…and this is bad why? Like nobody here’s ever fantasized about being dominated by a hottie.
Zonath might be onto something. For some reason I’m guessing that the script or idea began with the girls dominating men, and that in a revision they became Westerners, maybe to temper or neutralize the feminism that would become the message if the guys were Korean?
Who said it was bad?

It was implied:
#15.
I was implying that I remember it causing a “mini-controversy” among the expat community seven years ago as Benicio74 commented in #1.
Whether it is bad or not I’ll let the commentators decide.
