Couldn’t help but throw this up. It seems that Dutch thieves have been taking a more conservative, albeit fool-hearted, approach to swiping road vehicles as of late. Essentially, the short article merely sheds a little light on a few figures and states that a large percentage of the nabbings occured in Amsterdam (go figure)… but scroll down to the top 10 and you’ll find Mercedes seeded dead last and BMW wedged in the middle as the most preferred choice of auto theft. Mmmm, luxury’s losing its edge…

A dutch thief would rather joyride a Peugeot than a Benz! Horreur!
I’ve owned Benz (in Germany) and drive a VW these days. You don’t see many new Benz in Korea these days and a trip to the States last May revealed to me why: the new big Benz looks like a ‘75 Buick Riviera! I’d need gold chains and a fedora before I looked right driving one!
The 112 stolen Benz’ might have been older models, you know, the cars that look like a REAL Mercedes!
That’s because they strip the cars for parts.

Funny you should mention it, but while I was on duty in France in ‘96, one of our rental Peugeot’s got stolen. The gendarmerie informed us that there was a big demand for Pugs and Pug parts in (then sanctioned) Iraq.
That rental Peugeot assigned to me was the most boring vehicle I had ever driven to date. It beat walking, but not by much in acceleration…..
The Netherlands is also a paradise for bicycle theives.
