It seems the Ministry of Unification is on the way out of existence. It is fitting that the current Beverly hillbilly (see here) National Intelligence Service director is also on the way out as well.

Hmmmm….I wonder if the “Beverly hillbilly” will get the idea of leaking details of the negotations that resulted in the release of the missionaries in Afghanistan last summer.
Little Elvis: “Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone. And she’s always gone too long anytime she goes away.”
Glad I took a look at the first link, it’s from the NYT (not Korean language as I expected):
“….The proposal by the president-elect, Lee Myung-bak, to abolish the Unification Ministry and have its duties taken over by the Foreign Ministry is subject to parliamentary approval.
Liberal lawmakers, who dominate Parliament and take great pride in the thawing they have long pursued between the Koreas, are expected to fight to save the ministry…”
So does that mean it’s not necessarily a done deal? In spite of the frequent lack of interest here in this type of subject, I hope you’ll cover the follow-up; I’m interested.
Also in the fate of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which I gather from the article is also in jeopardy.
