Can do this with Mac Os X… for years now
actually you can with an extra program, but why would you want to? eye candy, cool yes, but after the 3rd time I’m pretty sure it would drive me batty.
That’s not Ubuntu — it’s Compiz or Beryl, or whatever they’re calling the compositing manager these days. It’s available on any Linux PC with Xgl-supported hardware.
Anyway, has it contributed to your productivity?
Hmm there’s a different one available as well though it costs money. http://www.cubedesktop.com/
No*. But it looks damn cool.
*Actually, having multiple desktops has actually made work move smoother.
Cool!!!
Annoying, and useless come to mind.
And no I am not talking about my wife.
Yes. I loved Ubuntu. Until I wanted to sync my MP3 player, surf with my 3G phone or do a presentation. Then back to Satan’s XP.
I have something similar on my Macs, yes plural, and I have something like 6 or 7 virtual desktops on all my machines — helps greatly with productivity. I did set the 3D Cube effect to maximum speed, so that it doesn’t get annoying…
looks cool, but why?
looks cool, but why?
For the multiple desktops. Makes it easier to open gazillions of windows, while spreading them over several separate virtual desktops, thus making desktop clutter less aggravating.

All I need.
My solution is to use multiple monitors. Makes life grand.
Multiple monitors, multiple desktops and sweet, sweet Mac OS X. Life really is grand: Two 24″ monitors now cost what I paid for my now-grotty 17″ Samsung LCD in 2001.
I would use dual 24″ monitors except that I don’t have enough space so am limited dual 22″…. wish I had a bigger desk and a bigger house to hold it.
God I love Mac OS X
