Uncle Sam IS Watching You

According to a 2007 survey by the Privacy International and the Electronic Privacy Information Center, the countries where surveillance is “endemic” — compared to five in 2006 — is England, Wales, Malaysia, China, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the US. (from the BBC)

Is he watching me when I’m in the bathroom, crappin’ out a biggun?

Man, I can’t imagine how anyone from a modern nation can be happy with being on par with China and Singapore in this regard.

Sounds like a bunch of crap, or a half-assed study at best. Do they really believe people in the U.S. are under heavier surveillance and have less privacy than people in North Korea?

    @#3

The study is exclusive to online surveillances. In addition, the study’s system of measuring online privacy is by looking at actions taken by government to protect/attack privacy online. I’m guessing North Korean government didn’t really had to pass any laws in regards to privacy in general.

Or, it could be that the group couldn’t find any information/statistics on North Korea regarding this issue, and did not include the country in their studies.

It’s always funny to hear people say how bad they have it since the gov’t monitors specific communication in the interest of national security.

Oh but they are the same people who once the shit hits the fan are the ones claiming the govt does not do enough to mitigate the threats.

If you are doing something wrong the gov’t has no interest in your porn surfing habits.

    Don’t sweat it!

Standing idly by while your civil liberties are eroded is a great way to end up living in a police state. You can keep telling yourself that you aren’t doing anything wrong so none of it matters to you, but, if it continues unchecked, it will eventually effect you.

Check out H.R. 1955. Or what is called the Thought Crime Bill.

    http://www.washingtonwatch.com....._1955.html

Uncle Sam wants to know what you think. So, it’s a crime to think about committing a crime. So, I guess this is a crime, because I am thinking about thinking about committing a crime. Oh now I’ve gone all cross eyed….

So, it’s a crime to think about committing a crime.

Yep, next thing you know Tom Cruise and his Precrime Unit will be banging on your door because their Precogs read your mind about killing those pesky houserats in the basement. :)

… Standing idly by while your civil liberties are eroded is a great way to end up living in a police state.

This is precisely the concern. Greece has better checks and balances in place than the US or UK and does not delete postings like the NEC (National Election Commission) in Korea, which is most definitely political censorship of an unsavory nature.

Americans need to demand more accounting for the irregularities that are dismissed with the phrase “war on terror” or “9-11″. That is government without consent or representation and that is not what a democracy is all about.

    @ mcnut

I think it’s vital for American people to always be on the ’skeptical’ side of the fence when it comes to governmental action, on the account that otherwise accountability would be lost. None of those “9-11 was engineered by the Jewish lobbyists + George Bush is a front for the Skull & Bones takeover of America” stuff, but I think some of the legislations passed and/or debated need to be under close surveillance by the people (the pun is very much intended).

americans should be more concerned with the ACLU eroding its civil liberties than the FBI or NSA listening in on your communication

Sure, the gub’ment can now search without warrants, don’t sweat it, it’ll never happen to you…

The gub’ment can also detain you without giving any reason, at some unknown location, but don’t sweat it, it’ll never happen to you…

The gub’ment works with phone companies to check on you without warrant, but its cool, they’re not looking for you….

The police in my city can stop anyone and ask them for ID, and if they don’t have one, they can haul your ass to jail… but worry only if you’re poor, a person of color, or all of the above…

The administration pays for TV spots to alter public opinion, but don’t worry, it hapens all the time….

Presidential candidate(s) answers planted questions, don’t worry, it won’t effect you…

Now I know what you’re saying, isn’t some of that against our constitution? Sure it is, but like our current president said, it’s just a god damn piece of paper.

    TRUST YOUR GUB’MENT!!!!

but ACLU… man, those guys, worry about them…

Reeeeally? Left? too many movies? Conspiracy? crack pipe? [elided for inappropriate content]

Without sounding so offended, tell me tough guy, what have I written that’s false or a conspiracy? You read the papers right? Or at least watch the news???

I never said all my liberties were gone. Just pointed out some bad laws that passed recently as well as some stuff that made the news recently. And my standard of living, while better then most, ain’t the same(with the value of dollar dropping for god knows how long, you heard about that right?).

I was a little vague because I figured you would know what’s going on in our country but I see you’re just talking pure nonsense and gave you too much of the stuff called “benefit of doubt”

So break it down for me tough guy. Why should I not care what my government’s doing? I should let the guys up top take care of it? Because what? They don’t mess up?

And what’s with your name? You’re a drive through for people busting nuts on you? Ah…. I get what’s your problem … Hey, what you do is your own business, have fun with that, just don’t type with that stuck up your [elided]. :)

Stoned Asian is absolutely correct. Good government requires the active participation and oversight of the people it is supposed to represent. If there is no oversight, anything can and will happen.

The egregious incompetence and mistakes of the current American administration are such that a political correction should be forthcoming. This report is only one sign of their mis-steps in judgment.

Very funny Stone but you will notice that when you replace the naughty stuff with real words, your argument becomes more forceful and forces the kids to learn vocabulary. :o)
