The UN adopted a resolution expressing “very serious concern” over the notable human rights violations in North Korea. The politics of it stink . . .

Kim Jong Il: Hans Brix? Oh no! Oh, herro. Great to see you again, Hans!
Hans Blix: Mr. Il, I was supposed to be allowed to inspect your palace today, but your guards won’t let me enter certain areas.
Kim Jong Il: Hans, Hans, Hans! We’ve been frew this a dozen times. I don’t have any weapons of mass destwuction, OK Hans?
Hans Blix: Then let me look around, so I can ease the UN’s collective mind. I’m sorry, but the UN must be firm with you. Let me in, or else.
Kim Jong Il: Or else what?
Hans Blix: Or else we will be very angry with you… and we will write you a letter, telling you how angry we are.
#1: You beat me to it. I swear I was just googling this dialog.
#2,
Well, it’s’ about time you showed up! First thing that came to my mind was two things:
1. That dialog, and
2. Your avatar
Now if anybody can post that dialog about them dicks, pussies and assholes…
Kinda weird, isn’t it? The article mentions the usual suspects who opposed it, but there were 22 oppositions and 59 abstentions overall, totalling 81 countries who refused to condemn NK human rights violations, against 101 who did. Rather shitty ratio.
Does NK really have that much biz going on with 82 of the world’s worst nations? Or is it just that many countries refuse to support anything the West proposes, no matter how sensible?
well cant Hans go on a NK sponsored vacation and visit a North Korean mountain and then tell the UN that “I know nothing” and that I did not see any weapons?
I wonder if South Korea voted or abstained…I guess the latter.

ROK abstained, according to the official recorded vote. Here’s the record, just in case anyone wants to look over what countries join the ROK on the list of shame:
http://www.un.org/News/Press/d.....78.doc.htm
Look down near the bottom, under the heading ‘Annex XVI’ for the voting roll.
Heh, that’s ironic. Just above that (Annex XV), ROK is in agreement with “promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms and in solving international problems of a humanitarian character”.

Yep. I was personally kind of surprised that the US was the only country that opposed the rights of the child as well as the right to food… The UN General Assembly is a strange strange place.
