The rifle and ammo taken after an attack on two ROK marines have been found off a highway in Jangseon, Jeollanam-do. Moreover, a note believed to be written by the attacker was found in a Busan mail box, and local police believe he may turn himself in. YTN reports that investigators believe the man to be an ex-cop and former marine.
UPDATE: The suspect has been caught in Seoul’s Jongno area. As it would turn out, he was not a former marine or Special Forces guy, nor was he an ex-cop. Rather, he worked for an interior design firm.

They just found and arrested this guy, according to my co-worker. I’m glad they did b/c everyone who was in Seoul this past week knows this guy singlehandedly made traffic a living nightmare (military searches in the streets). It was to the point where you could make an appointment, hop on the subway instead of taxi, and be an hour late and blame it on this guy and everyone who waited on you would chuckle and everything would be all right.
Sounds like they need to hire Mandy Patinkin as their profiler
Interior Designer? Are you sure this isn’t your Paulie Walnuts moment?
the ex-marine/cop was hyped to take pressure away from the fact two marines had their weapons taken and their asses kicked
“The suspect has been caught in Seoul’s Jongno area. As it would turn out, he was not a former marine or Special Forces guy, nor was he an ex-cop. Rather, he worked for an interior design firm.”
I knew it and called it. Like I was saying, one doesn’t need special training or skills to run over a couple of soldiers with a car.
@4 not sure if that would be necessary. The guy was armed with a Korando (sp?) when he struck… He didn’t have to be a green beret to run down pedestrians, even if they are the ROK’s finest. My frail mother could have done that just as easily with her Pontiac.
oops, Someguy already said that.
obviously ESL teachers aren’t the only ones who should be getting background checks.
#8…LOL. Touche!
My question is… Are all the munitions accounted for?
BTW… “Do my hand grenades and drapes clash?”. Bastard, had me worried for the week(weak).
Why is everyone so relieved? It seems to me that working in an interior design firm would be the perfect cover for a Pyongyang plant.
Can we be sure he wasnt teaching English at the interior design firm? Hehe. Whoever he is, he should be sent to prison for a long time if found guilty…
Great! I was cursing all this operations they were doing to “find the guilty guy”, i.e., blocking the traffic on the main roads, and screwing up our lives more than what they are already due to this bad traffic (caused by bad drivers, of course).
What amazes me is that they really thought they could get the guy(s) by doing this to traffic. Yeah! Screw the others, we don’t care, we just need to find someone, so if this stops the city, what’s the problem? It’s not our problem, we never have any good feelings for other anyway…
Fortunately, back to the just bad traffic.
I had a hunch all this talk about having to be an ex-Marine to figure out the guard schedule was a bit cheesy. Like the guy couldn’t have figured that out in one day of surveillance.
But interior designer? A poof with issues?
Heh. I’m willing to take a limb here and go as far to say that them PR guys are probably toning down the facts that the guy might actually be more than just an interior designer.
Cover-up? You betcha!
Weird that there’s no word yet on this guy’s motive foe such a horrific crime — and stupid one, anybody would know there’d be a huge manhunt, you’d NEVER get away with it. Why did he try it?
#14,
I had a feeling the talk about him being an ex-Marine was PR. They wouldn’t want people to realize that the bravado is BS, would they? They have to keep the illusion alive, otherwise people will come to realize that if China decides to invade, were royally fkt.
#15,
Maybe…then again, if he isn’t keeping the illusion that he is could have it’s advantages. See my reply to #14.
