A presidential candidate guide

With Korea having twelve candidates on the ballot this year, I decided to do a short review of some of the more prominent ones as a service for those who have not been following the election closely (there must one or two who have not).

Here is a sample of part of Lee Myung-bak’s listing:

#2 Lee Myung-bak, a former business executive and mayor of Seoul, is certainly the most scandal-plagued candidate in the field. Since he started preparing for his presidential last year Lee has been hit with scandals involving free use of tennis courts, having fake addresses to get his children into the right schools, real estate speculation, using proxies to hide his wealth, fake jobs for his children and investment fraud.

So, naturally, the Grand National Party standard bearer is the leading candidate.

Alas, the 800-word limit meant that I couldn’t cover all of them.  Some guys just had to get left out:

#7-11 Don’t worry about the 7-11 candidates. They will not have a significant impact on the election.

As you might expect, Park Geun-hye’s future husband is among the 7-11 guys.

I’ve been told #3 is probably the candidate that the Cheabols like the least…sounds to me like a good enough reason to vote for him.

After nearly five years being governed by a president seen as being moral but incompetent,

    The current president is moral?

Yeah, apparently he hasn’t heard people wonder why the new government-subsidized apartments in Seoul are just as expensive as non-subsidized ones.

The current president is not considered moral by many Koreans. His deaf ears about the truly grotesque human rights abuses in NK are considered very immoral.

Considering the election seems to be a done deal, when is the big Park Geun-hye wedding going down? Have they chosen an appropriate hotel? Where will the honeymoon be? What A-list Hanryu celebrities might we expect to attend? Funny, but I kind of thought Ms. Park seemed a little too career oriented for marriage.
