The Fairfax Times looks at how the Korean-American vote help Democrat Chap Petersen win state senatorial elections in Virginia. Petersen has close ties to the Korean community through his wife, a Korean-American. Obviously something I need to remember should I ever run for public office in Arlington, Virginia (where — sit down for this — Mongolian is the third largest language in the school district behind English and Spanish). When I lived in Arlington, I’d say that about a quarter of the people in my apartment complex were Mongolian. Rings true to me.

I could be mistaken but the Korean population in arlington is pretty notable too and I’m sure your ability to speak Korean wouldn’t hurt in that respect….Maybe you SHOULD run for office:)
I dunno… I might loose respect in Rob if he runs for office. I was under the impression that he’s got too much personal integrity to consider the sausage making unsavoryness of political life.

You may be confusing it with Annandale, which sorta has a Koreatown.

Then again, Annandale and Arlington are only 10 miles away from each other.
Annandale was also home to Mary Karen Read, one of the Virginia Tech victims. She was half Korean.

The Republican lost in part because she was strongly anti-gun in what is still a state that’s a bastion of southern sensibilities. If part of that was a strong turnout by Americans of Korean descent that’s just fine.
Subject to review by Koreans that is not a dig at Koreans. My first wife was Korean.
What’s unexpected about Mongolians settling in Arlington in large numbers is that Arlington’s largest non-English speaking community, Central Americans, is being priced out by gentrification. The Mongolians must be doing pretty well for themselves. Arlington’s ESL program is outstanding. Their teachers conduct professional development courses, do consulting work for other districts, and produce and market training videos.
