Well, It Ain’t Just the Yale Degree

Just when you thought it was fading away.  A Seoul Court has removed the “degree scammer” Shin Jeong-ah from a debt workout program after discovering that she had lied about her financial status.

The Seoul Central District Court said Sunday that it has decided to annul the personal workout program for the former Dongguk University art professor.

Under the program, the court helps those who become bankrupt pay off their debts gradually.

Indebted for 104 million won, Shin applied for the program in September 2005 and has been paying off the debt since March last year. However, later it was found that during the application process, the credit defaulter had not report her property worth 115 million won and 1.1 million won monthly income. She also had over 500 million won in stocks.

With 500 million Won in stocks, plus other goodies given to her by the supposed “sugar daddy” one wonders why she didn’t use that to pay off the 104 million in debt.  Not that I’m surprised by Shin’s behavior.  And why did it take two years for the court to finally come around to realizing that she was more than capable of paying off the debts?

It’s called greed; human nature 101.

Becoz….her sugar daddy was so high up before which made their little thing “untouchable”, but not anymore under present circumstance? :D

    “1.1 million won monthly income”?

There’s no way that is correct. Someone screwed up the position of the decimal point?

That’s the amount she affirmed to the court, not the amount she actually earned. It comes from her September 2005 application, made at the time when she became a full professor at Dongkuk (prior to that, she was a visiting professor). It’s a false statement of earnings from one of the great liars of recent memory.

I still can’t figure out whether Shin is genuinely insane or a tremendously talented liar. Maybe a combination of the two?

Wow…I don’t mean to be stereotypical, but in general, I’ve noticed that E. Asian women, regardless of country, are big players when it comes to money (most Asian families I know, the wives control the bank account) and putting on a show (ie. being powerless and male dominated). If I got 5 cents for every couple where the wife was a quiet and agreeing in public but a slipper slapping, husband-beating matriarch at home, I’d well, be able to buy out Marmot’s Hole and have a picture of my hairy butt as the logo.

Hmm, now that I think about it, my wife, too, also was asking for my access code before I was married so that I “wouldn’t have to bother myself” with the messy numbers and she could handle all the payments and paperwork easily, but I simply figured at the time that it was ’cause she was a finance grad.

#5. I sometimes jokingly - well, half-jokingly - refer to my wife as my “manager.” I’m not complaining because she seems to be considerably better at money management than I am.
