Let It Not be Said the North Koreans are Ungrateful

North Korea has apparently thanked the US for lending assistance to a North Korean freighter under attack by Somali pirates:

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said, “We feel grateful to the United States for its assistance given to our crewmen. This case serves as a symbol of the DPRK-U.S. cooperation in the struggle against terrorism.”

Heartwarming. Having gotten the sarcasm out of the way, I can’t recall the last time North Korea said something like that to the United States.

However, what I didn’t read before is that in the process of assisting the North Korean freighter, the US Navy apparently ignored a Kenyan request that said ship be detained and brought to Mombasa to be searched:

The Kenyan branch of the Seafarers Assistance Programme had urged the US Navy to detain the North Korean freighter and bring it to the Kenyan port city of Mombasa, where it would be searched.

The programme has suspected the vessel of using a fake name and involvement in unlawful activities in Somalia, a lawless African nation that has been wracked by war for 16 years.

OK, now that’s more like what I’m used to.

Robert, very much off-topic. Sincere apologies.

    But…

What happened to the entire post on Shinhan Bank messing up the Dramman’s alley? It was BS but it was also (a little bit) fascinating to watch people interact with it in the comments. Did you turf it?

Thanks from a grateful North Korea? Wow! If only it was like that in the South!

“The US navy apparently ignored a Kenyan request that said the ship be detained.” Remaining silent on the Israeli attack on the alleged nuclear facilities in Syria and now this incident. The Bush administration now seems to be loath to face up to North Korea. Shame on Bush !!

I didn’t turf it. I assume Dramman did. A decision, frankly, I’d prefer be left to me.

So wait… Kenya is asking the US to detain a North Korean ship in international waters for alleged illegal activity in Somalia — a country that’s supposedly ‘lawless?’ Would anyone mind explaining WTF??? If I were the US Navy, I’d be pretty intent on ignoring that request, too. ;)

It wasn’t “dramman”, it was “R. Elgin”.

I suppose I should not have been so harsh in my comments, but my reaction was akin to a surgeon watching an episode of “General Hospital” and shouting at the screen, “Hey! That’s not how doctors do it!”

Now, why would I want to waste good cheese on a low quality whine?
