One Korean cultural export has made it big in the little island of Saipan (Saipan Tribune):
The world-famous B-Boy Crew brought the house down with their dazzling acrobatics during the group’s two-day show at the Marianas High School Gym Friday and Saturday night.
The thousand-plus-and mostly youthful-crowd couldn’t get enough of the group’s acrobatic and athletic form of breakdancing.
Sponsored by the JCI-Saipan, the B-Boy Crew performances awed the young audience, who would break out into applause and gasps of awe whenever the dancers did nearly superhuman feats of athleticism while dancing to the beat of the latest hip-hop dance tunes.
The crowd was particularly amazed during the dance showdown and exhibitions.
LJ Castro, who emceed the night with Power 99′s DJ Juice, said the show was fantastic in that he knows no one in the CNMI who could come close to the talent of the 12 young dancers.
The event was held to raise money for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands public school system.

Back in 2003 all the news was about how hot the Korean Wave was and how it was taking over the world. It’s certainly died down some. I guess we just have to be content with taking over small south Pacific islands…
Big in Saipan!
First, Saipan, next the US, then the world!
B-Boy Crew? Those break-dancers? Performing one show over there doesn’t make the ‘Korean Wave’ the biggest thing to have hit Saipan since Spam.
…It just means kids like flashy stuff like breakdancing.
Hey, I participated in some pretty hot performances at my own high school gym in Texas on Friday and Saturday nights back in the day, but you don’t see me writing about a mateomiguel wave sweeping the southwestern US do you?
These things are relative. Saipan only has someting like 60,000 people and half of those are migrant workers.
SomeguyinKorea,
I certainly would not claim that the B-boys have replaced Spam in the hearts of the of people of Saipan (it being one of the few places where McDonalds has spam on the menu).
