If you’ve ever wanted to know who does the English subway stop announcements on the Seoul subway system, the Seoul Shinmun (actually NOW News) ran an interview with the very photogenic Jennifer Clyde, who does the voice recordings for lines 1-4.
So, You Wanted to Know Who the Subway Voice Is?

I know you said she was photogenic and - hey - who wouldn’t trust The Marmot? But that said, as I was mid-click a sense of panic rushed over me as I thought, “Oh my God! What if this woman is hideous? My subway rides will be haunted for the rest of my days! What have I DONE???”
Fortunately she turned out to be fairly attractive and all is well with the world.
i’ve never wondered about the subway as much as i have about the trains, who is that fool?
She does have a lovely voice. But how could you ever date someone who reminded you of Korea’s subway everytime she opened her mouth? Every day you’d hear, “This shirt is ironed, ironed. The drawers are to my left…” Alas, all my hopes of dating the photogenic Ms. Clyde are shattered.
Imagine being on the metro with her… She better know the name of every station you’re passing through
I thought she came across really well in the embedded video. Very endearing. I suppose I have slightly higher aspirations for my 15-month-old (and, hopefully, eventually doubly native-speaking) daughter than subway announcements on the 3호-선, but Jennifer Clyde is still a great role model.

Chosun did a nauseating “I love korean food” type interview with her a while back. I wonder if there’s a career trajectory in subway announcing: Seoul>Tokyo>London>New York?
I was friendly with a Chinese lady who did the voices on the Beijing subway line. She was actually the product of the voice dept of an acting school and broke into Mandarin cable TV news.
How friendly?
Nevermind, I withdraw the question. We don’t need another Net Kim-like TMI post.

It’s great that you’ve got lofty expectations for your 15-month old.
That said, apart from the fact that she’s bilingual, I don’t quite
see why Ms. Clyde’s suitability as a “role model” has come up as an issue.
And I’m even more confused about why you felt it necessary to add
the little snub regarding her, ah, station in life.
It was hard to be intimate with her when she had to read off Beijing stop names every several minutes. And you know how ordinary Chinese crowds tend to stare at foreigners….
all you perverts will be playing pocket pool everytime you ride the subway thinking of jennifer
i know i will!!!
I’ve assisted the PR Dept. when they did English voice recordings for the company’s PR videos. And the trend that I have noticed is that well let’s just say that the voices didn’t exactly match the image of the person behind the voice. Not that I have anything against that.
However, with Ms. Clyde, I believe the trend has been broken.
Very attractive woman. Very memorable face. And she does a good jobs with the announcements. What more could you want?
Oh my lord…
This moment is the first in my life in Korea that I’ve ever been eager to ride the subway…
She doesn’t do everything on line 2, right? I can never forget the man who announces the stops at SU-won, SU-won.
Who’s the breathless bird that does the bus announcements then?
If you’re ever out at Juan Station on Line 1, listen for the woman who announces that ‘the train bound for Dongducheon is now arriving’ - on that outdoor platform, she sounds just like the Bond villainess in ‘You Only Live Twice’.
I dinna know Line #2 went to Suwon…
“운전을 하고 다녀서 지하철을 거의 타본 적이 없다. 기회가 되면 한 번 타봐야겠다.” Typical Korean 강남 아줌마 or typical rich expat?
Is she married? And is that her email addy under her photo?
Dibs!
nyavogo, if you’re not a rich Korean man, she’s prolly not interested.
