Shin Jeong-ah has finally checked herself into a hospital.
One wonders what took so long.
The head of the hospital she’s staying at said she’s showing signs of dehydration, probably because she hasn’t been eating properly for the last couple of days.
Immediately after checking in, she apparently said she wanted to eat “Saeukkang” and “Jjanggu,” two popular snacks.
Anyway, meeting with reporters at the hospital, Shin’s lawyer said his client admitted to wrongdoing involving her Yale thesis. He explained, “Shin said, ‘I admit that even if I left the writing of my thesis to someone else, and that person plagiarized, the mistake is with me.’”
I shit you not. That’s what she said. Or at least that’s what her lawyer said she said. Or what the JoongAng Ilbo said her lawyer said she said.
UPDATE: Oh, and the Kyunghyang Shinmun takes us down memory lane with the Linda Kim scandal.

Obviously, the devil made her do it.
I guess the wheelchair isn’t far behind.
Too tired/lazy to read the Korean Joongang at bedtime, but are Korean newspapers still seriously entertaining Shin’s claim that this is a thesis plagiarism problem? Aren’t they running a boilerplate sentence that straight up reminds readers that Yale never heard of her, period, and Univ of Kansas records her as dropping out?
#2, I’m starting to think that she reads this blog for pointers because I wondered yesterday when the hospital gown pictures would appear.
Not really. I get the feeling they simply find Shin’s excuses amusing.
All she needs now is a patchy beard.
The old show up in court in a wheelchair and pajamas trick. Brilliantly executed and lethal. Turns judges into blithering idiots (or were they already). Maybe when dope smuggling/using English teachers call Brendon, his advice should be, “go get yourself a wheelchair and some pajamas”. Why pay an expensive lawyer, doctors are cheaper, and more effective.
Hey, can my cousin Ruprek, at the home for the logically challenged become a Korean Judge? He wears pajamas all the time, so he sympathizes with fellow pajama wearers.
Please, don’t encourage the English teachers to call me.
‘He said, “Shin admitted that even though she left the writing of her thesis to someone else, and that person plagiarized, the mistake is with me.”’ (emphasis mine)
Now she’s blaming her attorney.
OK, corrected.
This whole thing is sort of moot isn’t it? She could have legitimately written the thesis, turned it in properly and all that. Doesn’t much matter if you aren’t ENROLLED.
Maddlew, Shin’s taking baby steps on the road to wellville. She’ll get to those greater realizations after a few bags of Jolly Pong™.
Say, anyone know which couturiers are offering hospital gowns in their fall collections?
Andre Kim
He specializes in straighjacket modelled on his signature white Michelin man suit with the appropriate straps, belts, cinches, etc. added.
She should have her hands chopped off with an axe for not writing her own thesis.
Bad enough to insult hardworking uni grads by claiming she also put her soul into her studies and earned degrees like most everyone else working her.
Correction: “here”
And Maddlew, it is (as suggested here already) that she is trying to shift blame for the thesis to
dirty foreignersanother party. Not being enrolled is also the blaming currently being tossed out— the idea that she only went to a “tutor” to consult/coordinate her thesis is retarded by our standards, but I would imagine seems pretty plausible to a lot of Koreans.
For a second I thought the title read; “Sin eaters….”
Uh, never mind.
This woman’s lying and excuses are totally over the top, even by local standards. I certainly don’t claim to be an expert on the subject, but it wouldn’t surprise me if she really is experiencing a genuine break with reality. The hospital - though we all know it tends to be a preferred destination for Koreans in legal trouble - might not be a bad place for her to be at the moment.
One right out of the accused NY Mafia chieftain Santo Trafficante’s book. Bad tricks do get around.
Can someone maybe explain this to me — Isn’t letting someone else write your thesis sorta kinda like plagiarism anyhow? I mean, you might hire a ghost writer to tighten up the grammar and help check citations or whatever, but if you’re actually not involved in the process enough to actually notice that your thesis isn’t actually based on your own thoughts and research, then what would make you think that you had any right claiming the degree that resulted?
Somehow, there must be something more going on here. After all, it strains credibility to believe that Ms. Shin could have effectively lied her way to the top if this is the sort of fish tale she tells when she’s really exerting herself.
I’m with #2, in any time soon, Shin and her lawyer will execute the powerful “Wheelchair” tactic. Even, a prosecutor giving a hint to her.

“신씨가 구급차를 타고 오는 데 대해 검찰은 “휠체어에 환자복을 입고 구급차량으로 오면 조사를 하지 않고 돌려보내겠다”고 통보하는 등 신경전이 벌어지기도 했다”
Well may be it’s an exclusive option for Chaebeol’s Chairman. But still what else she could lose?

Is she on a wheelchair?
If so, she’s the first one ever found with a mask and on a wheelchair.
Unconvincing ending. Hmm… I cannot find Supreme court’s ruling.
Actually Shin admitted null.
She admitted non-contended issues, so she made gibberish again.
It was revealed: she had not applied for Yale; Yale prof. does not know Shin;typing Tsiakma’s paper was done in order to be submitted in Korean institution; she never attended Yale alumni’s association in Korea; she regularly attended Poya elite meeting.
So, it’s gibberish to say “Oh, I admit bla bla… “, and write “She admits her thesis wrongdoing”. Of course, I know wordplay ‘admit’.
