Nude Photos of Disgraced Ex-Prof Discovered

by Robert Koehler on September 13, 2007

The Shin Jeong-ah story just keeps on getting better. Now the Chosun Ilbo, citing a Munhwa Ilbo story, reports that nude photos of Shin have been discovered at the home of a “powerful figure in the cultural sector.”

One expert quoted by the Chosun said the photos, taken with an everyday camera, were real and did not appear to be for art use.

Another expert said, and I quote, “Given how there are no underwear marks on her body, the photos were taken a while after she’d removed her underwear.”

The Chosun Ilbo — bring you the news you need to know, since 1920.

UPDATE: The flood of traffic has crashed the Munhwa Ilbo’s server.

UPDATE 2: The Munhwa Ilbo’s decision to print the photos has generated quite a bit of controversy.

Jeezus… I just read her interview in the (English edition) Joongang Ilbo yesterday where she said she got where she is by “working her ass off” like any man, but because she’s a woman, everyone is saying she must have slept her way to the top. (Top of what? I’m not sure.)

Then you see these photos.

What a schizo bitch this must be.

How many VPL experts are on staff at the Chosun? I mean, as apposed to hobbyists.

3 andru September 13, 2007 at 2:51 pm

Uh… If I’m looking to see if someone in a photo is not wearing underwear, I’m not looking at underwear ‘marks’. Whatever those are.

4 SomeguyinKorea September 13, 2007 at 3:09 pm

Let me guess: the expert works for Chosun’s online edition of its sports newspaper.

5 SomeguyinKorea September 13, 2007 at 3:11 pm

BTW, there’s nothing artistic, or erotic for that matter, about those two pictures.

6 mins0306 September 13, 2007 at 3:32 pm

Agreed, this story keeps getting better and better. Before this came out, there was a story that Shin Jung Ah was buried and later rescued when the Sampoong Dept. Store collapsed on 1995. I wonder what the next story will be. That she is a N. Korean agent?

7 Hugh September 13, 2007 at 3:38 pm

I laughed yesterday at the interview Dogbertt mentions… Especially the part where she insists she got a PhD from Yale and hints at some conspiracy that her ‘tutor’ who ‘helped’ her write her thesis had disappeared. This after Yale has flat-out said “She was never registered here” and the thesis was revealed as a real PhD holder’s one from years ago.

She’s using the Hwang Woosuk defence: 1) deny everything, concede nothing no matter how conclusive the evidence, to try to preserve some shred of face; and 2) hint darkly at a ‘conspiracy’ and paint yourself as the victim.

That Blue House aid who resigned after prosecutors found over 100 “explicit love letters” on his computer to and from her is using the same defense – “Wife, I know it looks bad, but it’s not true! I never screwed around”… Within a week he’ll be in the papers muttering about a conspiracy, too.

From the GrandMaster’s mouth: “I NEVER had sex with that woman!”

As Gibbon said, we on this earth are “a weak and degenerate race of beings.”

Speaking of younger women with no formal qualifications… It is said that the manager of a 4-star hotel built by a Korean company in a South-East Asian nation was hired to that position because she is the mistress of the very married company president.

10 wjk September 13, 2007 at 3:59 pm

What crime did she commit to deserve such an invasion into her privacy and a character assassination that she can probably never recover from?

This story disappeared with the Afghan Korean situation.

It is resurfacing with quite a kick.

In the mean time, other people not even involved with the case have fessed up about their fake degrees or lies about their degrees.

Now, it is a witch hunt into which politicians bedded her or possibly fathered her.

I’m not sure if it even is a crime to bed her. Wait, there is kan tong jwae. But I don’t know if that warrants a national character assassination.

11 Hugh September 13, 2007 at 4:06 pm

“What crime did she commit to deserve such an invasion into her privacy and a character assassination that she can probably never recover from?”

Well, the Korean crime of adultery, it seems.

But seriously, it came back because of her involvement with a top presidential aide, which was certainly massively unethical for him, and potentially dangerous to the nation as well since screwing around with her opened him to blackmail from foreign intelligence agencies.

Although not her crime, this case also involves the crime of flouting national regulations on who is to be hired as a professor, and whatever unethical shenanigans that went on with that.

When you say ‘character assassination’ you imply it is unfair or untrue, but I think ‘character revelation’ is a better way to put it.

Sex and politics, wjk. Face it, it’s a story with legs.

re: #5–”BTW, there’s nothing artistic, or erotic for that matter, about those two pictures.”

you read my mind!

she must have some pot of gold lying within–along with how to use it well–because those photos wouldn’t raise the libido of a serial, one-armed masturbator whose hot young wife has just come back from a year-long sabbatical at The Himalayan Institute of Learning Kama Sutra Positions for Women Married to One-armed Serial Masturbators.

13 tbonetylr September 13, 2007 at 4:27 pm

# 7 Hugh

You should know that she probably isn’t trying to paint herself as the victim because…
For example, if there is a plane crash or a hostage situation, Koreans would call the unfortunate passengers or hostages “the sacrificed (“huisaengja”),” instead of “the victims (“pihaeja”).”

So, she is nothing but a sacrificial lamb.

I’ve been expecting these sorts of revelations ever since the news that her supposed doctoral degree was fraudulent. An attractive young Cinderella? There must be a ‘prince’ somewhere. Maybe several.

She is — as one might well put it — a putative scholar.

Oh, gosh, she’s too greedy as well as mad-(d)ish. How on earth could she take all gifts like ₩30,000,000 watch and ₩10,000,000 necklace, etc? She’s been a black-hole of gifts from men. We women must share impromptu credit cards and status makers, for we have that level of face and intellectual power of Shin’s. What we don’t have is braveness to lie or what we have is ethics not to lie; it have made the difference.

But, anyway on the other hand she gives women hope; with that face and body and such silly logic, she controlled numerous famous figures.

Her crimes? maybe forgery, bribery, swindle, embezzlement, interference, hindrance, 사기회생죄, etc according to the concrete facts.

Adultery will not matter in this case, for it’s not a plausible scenario that the wives of Shin’s players will claim Shin and their husbands.

Hey, she’s not attractive? She’s much younger than her partners and voluntarily opened her legs to those older men. It’s enough. Oh, one more. She was a doctor of Yale, and this fact of that time made her seen tantalizing.

When it just couldn’t get worse for Roh and his cronies, it just got worse.

Those pics, if you ask me, look appropriate to some kind of a profile. I wouldn’t be surprised if some high-class prostitution ring is revealed from further investigation.

I was thinking the same thing. The photos look like officer/non-commissioned officer personnel file pictures for promotion consideration.

All I see is a large, 2001 monolith-like object blocking all the naughty bits, nay, pretty much all the bits. And this caused a website to crash?

24 Remort September 13, 2007 at 6:56 pm

Is there anything “real” in Korea?

I suspect a large number of people in Korea have falsified credentials at every level of society, particularly since a Human Resources Manager at one of the jaebols told me they never check educational credentials of applicants. He did tell me though, they do contact their past employer to give them a “guarantee” for their ex-employee in order for them to hire the applicant.

In Korea, I think, privacy is a bit of a gray area, given private investigation is illegal, since none of the men want to be photographed visiting their favorite whore. Also, while there are contracts and supposedly civilized laws (hopefully more civilized with the adoption of the American law school system this year), enforcement is a totally different issue in Korea. Hell, the police only turn on their sirens so other motorists don’t hit them.

Really all the exposed professor has left to do is either: leave Korea, or commit suicide. At least she has something in common with President Roh, and the former URI party — no education. Maybe she’ll have to do the Tonya Harding thing, and shoot some porn, but she’ll have to leave Korea to do the nasty fully exposed.

At least she’s being honest by denying the entire thing. **ROFL**

#17, 18,

Yeah, I’m actually that similar pictures of other women weren’t found. It looks like something from a catalog. Could this be a first public glimpse of a South Korean version of KJL’s dance troupe (well, second if you count the circumstances surrounding Park’s assassination)?

26 SomeguyinKorea September 13, 2007 at 8:06 pm

I’m actually surprised…

For the love of Kipple, hot or not, erotic or not, I still couldn’t pull up the site at work today and now, it seems they are gone. but someone grabbed em, right?

Link, link! I need a link, dammit!!

How on earth could she take all gifts like ₩30,000,000 watch and ₩10,000,000 necklace

That’s just because these items are grossly overpriced in Korea — overseas they’ll probably cost a fifth of that… ;-)

몸통 is totally hidden. Though people say that the 몸통(bulk) is XXX, the photos will not reveal it.

Breaking rumour-monger news, fellas!

When #10 wjk said “Now, it is a witch hunt into which politicians bedded her or possibly fathered her.” I wondered… Huh? Fathered her?

Had a beer with my Korean buddy tonight after work, he says the rampant rumour on the internet is… Shin JeongAh is the long-rumoured illegitimate daughter of ex-President Kim DaeJung. Rumour crackling further states that the Roh gov’t and Roh himself knew this and that DaeJung called in favors and the natural sympathy of fellow progressive Roh to make sure his illegitimate wastrel daughter managed to succeed in society despite wasting the time she was supposed to get a degree in America…

It just keeps getting better. If North Korea is somehow implicated, we’ll have the ‘perfect storm’ of Korean scandals!

34 SomeguyinKorea September 14, 2007 at 12:32 am

If this rumor spreads… Worse, if it turns out to be true… They’ll be wagging the dog furiously and incessantly until the elections. I’m bracing myself for more stories about our drug-fueled depravity.

35 Sonagi September 14, 2007 at 5:38 am

This is slightly off topic, but apparently, First Lady Kwon Yang-suk had a woman-to-woman talk with Byun’s missus and advised her to look to Hillary as a role model on how a political wife should behave when her husband gets caught with his trousers down:

36 gbnhj September 14, 2007 at 8:15 am

To cydevil, Brendon and others,

If you think these photos may point to prostitution, you’re not alone: the title of the article starts out with a Hanja-Hangul word which in Korean alone would read ‘성로비’ [valuable thing-lobby(ing for sale)], which is another way to say ‘prostitution’. Basically, the reporter is suggesting what you also think.

37 Sonagi September 14, 2007 at 8:42 am

I believe the “성” in “성로비” means “sex,” and thus is a more direct reference to prostitution.

38 wjk September 14, 2007 at 9:51 am

Look to Hilary Clinton for what?

She’s a model for a wife who’s been cheated on over and over and over again?

Did that prevent Bill from cheating again?

Or was it age and the decline in testosterone levels that lead to Bill being relatively quiet of late on extra marital relations and accusers?

Hill Clinton simply stood by her man for some benefits. Mainly political ones.

I’m not an advocate for divorce, but there’s nothing much to appreciate about Hill and Bill’s relationship.

39 cydevil September 14, 2007 at 9:56 am

gbnhj and Sonagi,

I believe there is still a slight difference between high-class prostitution and sex lobbying. The former is just prostitution — having sex for pleasure, and in this case, it’s with the “upper-class” ladies, like sexy college professors and lawyers. As for the latter, it’s a lobbyist having sex to earn some favors, be it political or economic, for the clients that hired her.

Then again, I don’t think the distinction between the two is so black and white — e.g., a high-class prostitution ring may be used for sex-lobbying.

40 foobat September 14, 2007 at 1:00 pm

wag the dog indeed!

41 Ut videam September 14, 2007 at 2:45 pm

And the drama continues…

Ye Olde Chosun reports that the pictures may be Photoshopped composites, quoting a photographer who notes that “the outline of the hair is unclear and the feet are not set on the floor in a natural way.”

http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200709/200709140022.html

The article also cites the doubts of an unidentified former coworker of Shin at the Sungkok Art Museum, who pointed out that

there are no scars on the arm of the woman in the photos. She said she saw noticeable scars on Shin’s arm when she wore half-sleeved clothes in summer, as the curator allegedly survived the 1995 Sampoong Department Store collapse, which claimed 501 lives and injured 937.

Of course, the Munhwa Ilbo apparently cited the same fact to show that Shin lied about surviving the department store collapse:
