Avoiding the effects of Beijing's air pollution is one thing...they just better be prepared to deal with Korea's high TB rate!

(Just kidding! Er, sort of...I just moved back to the US from Korea and found out I have tested positive for TB. No booze for half a year now. Glorious.)

The Brits are going to base their team out of Macao.
Not HK? :-)

Macao <--> Beijing is a 3.5 hours flight each way. Could be a bit tough. But if the planes are comfy, they could catch up on sleep...

However, I am sure the "athletes" participating in the equestrian events will rejoice [they're held in HK].

Hmm, wouldn’t the whole transportation issue unnecessarily exhaust the athletes?

75 minutes flight, which is probably less travel than if they were shacked in the outer rings of Beijing, considering the traffic... And I am sure they'll have accommodations regarding immigration on both sides.

Besides, they're athletes, they don't tire easy :D

The Brits are going to base their team out of Macao. Other teams are bringing is Asthma specialist to help deal with the pollution.

I'm searching this for an article. I read a piece (sorry, don't know the link now) in which one doctor said that a few weeks of training in Beijing could cost an athlete up to 10% of his or her lung efficiency (athletes being fine-tuned machines and all) so you have to pick you poison: fatigue from flying or messed-up lungs for staying around.

If the Chinese wanted backpack for the insult, redirecting a flight of American or UK athletes to an airport in another city and making them take a 4-hour bus ride to Beijing might do the trick.

Here is to the fools who thought that giving the Olympics to China would somehow help China develop. The CCP has paved over many historic buildings to build olympic spaces, giving the owners a little money and, when the games are over, the same Communist Party stooges will turn around and build commercial buildings, apartments, etc. potentially raking in big money. It is an abject lesson on how to steal from the average person, destroy one's history and make money in a single stroke. It is as if one were to make a Frankenstein monster out of American Capitalism and a one-party system, resulting in in all the worst excesses of America's past, minus the few virtues.

No wonder the CCP is so worried about internal dissent!
