The Secret Beverly Hillbilly from Pusan

by R. Elgin on September 6, 2007

I was amused to read the following account of the current head of the NIS (National Security Director) in Korea, who invited hometown friends to visit his workplace.  A newspaper editorial mentions that they “drank fine wine at the NIS cafeteria and shot guns.“  Apparently, someone at the Chosun Ilbo is not impressed with this fellow.

I think that Jed Clampett would enjoy coming by and sittin’ a spell with this guy.

Koreans, in general, are very clannish. Think of “old boy network” on steroids. That’s Korean business culture.

I’m disappointed by his behavior, but not surprised.

As for outing a subordinate operative, that was just plain stupid.

#2, LOL.

I’ll never understand why they elected a president who never attended university.

Yes, “old boy network”.
I cannot understand why Koreans make so much heavy weight on their “old boys”. Do the old boys help them in need, give them psychological rest? I hear and see many complaints to their old boys, but they keep the relations continued.

Umm, actually, I’m with green eyes. I have no “old boy network”. :(
