I don’t know if this has been posted before, but here it is:
Doc Lankov will be giving a lecture on the NK-China border region, NK refugees and the smuggling of information into North Korea. It will be at 7:30 on the evening of September 11. Get there early if you don’t want to be stuck standing in the back of the room. Click on the link for more information.
It sounds mighty interesting and I would be there if I didn’t have to work that night. Hopefully, one of the other members of the Marmot’s Hole collective will be on hand and will post a review.
Hat tip to Tom Coyner’s Korea Economic Reader email service.

Ah, thanks but Damn — I just posted about this lecture too, was still writing it when you slipped in! Well, this talk should be so fascinating for all concerned about the present and future of the Norks, it deserves two MH posts.
I’d advise folks to get there a bit early to score a seat, as every time Lankov lectures for us it’s SRO by 7:30. By the way, these talks are free for RAS members but a donation is requested from other attendees - optional amount but w5000 is politely suggested…
Oooooh. This lecture overlaps with Nine Inch Nails playing at Jamsil.
Go for the lecture. Lankov is in his prime and Reznor is long past his (academics having a longer shelf life than rockers and all).

What is that, some young-whippersnappers band?
Now, I’d skip Lankov for the Stones or the Dead or CSNY, but…
“GOD IS DEAD!!! AND NO ONE CARES!!!” Yeah, I was thrashing around on a dancefloor to that more than 10 years ago. Think I might throw my hip out now if I tried it.
