GNP presidential candidate Lee Myung Bak, has gotten into a spat with the opposition as a result of the following statement he made in a meeting with US Ambassador Alexander R. Vershbow.
This presidential election is a battle between the pro-North leftists and the right-wing conservatives.
What’s a Korean presidential election without the usual red-baiting?

I wonder how it is that Lee Myung-bak “is turning the country’s economy back to the Industrial Age” (which I agree would be a mistake) while he holds no office?
Also, why is it that Lee Myung-bak shall be required to declare himself a Yankee-lover (I guess this is an epithet in today’s Korea), while the current crop of
hateful racistsprogressives gets to unconvincingly deny that they are anti-American?They’re really afraid of this guy.

Chu Mi-ae was probably refering to what Lee Myung Bak could do after he takes office. Lee Myung Bak is from the economic old school, so there is a possibility that he will turn back the economic clock. Of course, as you mentioned, if he does that it will be a very bad idea.
Having listened to the presentation by Yang Sung-chul, DJ’s appointee as Ambassador to the US, at the recent RASKB meeting, I don’t think describing those blinded by the sunshine as pro-North Korean qualifies as “red-baiting” - it’s just a statement of fact, albeit one that challenges the deliberate or self-deceiving rhetoric of people like Yang that they’re really not.
Turning back the clock has its good side: Free haircuts and “No Gay in Korea!” reeducation camp for TVXQ/DBSK, and the 10:00 p.m. curfew means Sperwer can get a good night’s sleep every day instead of cruising the men’s lavatory at Incheon International Airport.
What, you think that “Abs at 57″ workout program is just for health?
I’ll be looking for you in your little sailor suit Brendon; trust you can squeal.
A simple test:
1. Do you want to give billions of dollars to North Korea without reciprocity?
2. Do you want to give them ROK-controled territory south of the Northern Limit Line?
3. Do you think that NK refugees should return to North Korea rather than damage inter-Korean relations by defecting to the ROK?
If you said yes to all three, then you are pro-North Korean (leftist or not). I don’t know if any major politicians qualify but it would be interesting to find out. I do know that Chung Dong-young scores on #1 and #3 (not sure about #2).
You guys bore me… so idiotic.
Not that I want to defend Chu Mi-ae, but why is Lee Myung-bak bashing his political opponents to the US ambassador? The US embassy has no say in who gets elected in December. It just comes off as very sadaejuui.
You blockquote that as if it’s less than completely true.
Kim Jong-il would be disappointed to hear that his Southern minions are not pro-North.
That’s no doubt what Lee and the GNP would like the US to believe after blowing crack smoke up its ass.

My words exactly, Robert.

I blockquoted that because I was quoting what Lee Myung Bak said. When you quote someone, you obviously add quotes or in this case blockquotes. Don’t get me wrong, I have no love for the so called “progressives” and the 386 dumbasses and thugs who make up the ranks of the “progressives”.
Well, Chu’s demand that Lee publicly declare himself “pro-America”, it smells of desperation.
The opponents of Lee have already assumed that the conservative voters, and those who are disillusioned by the current progressive administration’s dubious track-record are already lost-cause to them, while the younger liberal left-leaning voters are a lock for them. The big question is… where will the moderate center go?
Obviously, Chu wants to portray Lee NOT as moderate center-right, but a far-right, while portraying herself NOT as far-left, but a center left. When she says “declare yourself pro-America!” she’s obviously not expecting and answer from Lee. She’s simply saying to the majority of voters who are somewhere between far-left and far-right, “look, he’s way, way, way right!”
I don’t think Lee intended to bash his opponents. He just expressed his thoughts as he viewed. It’s funny the Lefties in Korea don’t seem to like to be called as such.
Also interesting is that the boy who grew up in a shanty town and worked as a scavenger in his younger years has become the Presidential candidate of the Conservative party of the country.
이명박 should declare himself as pro-South-Korea-emphasis-on-South, a bit long and belabored but in this world of crude political games, that should convey the right meaning.

Bravo.
