He has certainly figured out how to craft a pathetic, pandering, tear-jerking appeal to dimwitted nationalism with his sappy ending. But by all accounts, he still has not figured out how to craft a good film. And since audiences outside of Korea don't give two flying fucks about sad stories of woe and whiting! Korean pride, he's going to fall flat on his face if he thinks that formula will conquer Hollywood. I feel sorry for all legitimate directors in Korea who have worked so hard to build up a positive image for Korean film. It's all about to go down the toilet in one fell flush once it hits American theaters.
