3. Not sitting by and letting your teachers’ unions propagandize hatred of both the United States

How is Korea supposed to do what the US can't even do?

Ut Videam
My namesake cannot have killed more babies than either Moses or David did. (You know David, the "great" king who made his prisoners walk through a kiln? Another moral authority - what a sick bunch.) I know that Christians find their holy book too uncomfortable to read through, but read it anyway.
Anyway: the Bible says relentlessly that it is not the work of man but of God. (Surely you don't need the dozens of references. Or do you?) If it is the word of god it is self-evident that it is all true and (since God is omniscient and would therefore not have risked being misunderstood in future eras) meant to be true forever. As is.
Take this from Deuteronomy: If your brother, son, daughter, wife, or friend tries to get you to worship another god, "thou shalt surely kill him, thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death." It also expressly warns us against showing pity (the Koran couldn't have put it better). If we aren't to follow this, why was it written? As mere rhetoric? Is it superseded by Jesus's talk? Did God say the wrong things and need his son to correct them?
Anyway, you got me wrong. I'm actually fond of Christians. Keep on selectively reading your Bible, I say. Better yet: Let your theologians tell you what God really meant to say (though the hubris of that always makes me chuckle), let pastors select safe excerpts for you to chant aloud in church. You're a less dangerous crowd that way. I'd much rather have a leaflet waved in my face on the subway than have a bomb go off under my seat.

"Calm down…are the Taliban prisoners some type of advanced killing robots that we can’t detect? What’s all this bullshit about the prisoners getting out of prison and instantly turning into killing machines?"

You're the only one being melodramatic and referring to them as killing machines. I referred to them as terrorists who kill lots of people. And I didn't claim they would "instantly turn into killing machines." I said they already are killers:

'Amnesty International said at least 756 civilians were killed last year by bombs, mostly on roads or carried by suicide attackers..."By using indiscriminate attacks such as suicide bombings in public places and by deliberately targeting civilian workers, the Taliban are committing war crimes," Cordone said.'

I doubt the Taliban is asking for the release of people who are imprisoned for traffic violations or insider trading.

From Choe Sang-Hun's piece (emphasis mine):

Grief, anger and a growing sense of helplessness gripped South Koreans on Tuesday after the government confirmed that the body of the bespectacled man dumped in a clover field beside a road in southern Afghanistan was that of Shim, who had volunteered for a South Korean church group's aid mission to the war-torn country.

I wonder if that was intentional?

how do we "quote" people on this thinger?

Anyway, I must quote yourbutt when he said "The ROK values the alliance, as does the US, as do I. Are you for the alliance or not? Be clear."

At the risk of making a Taranto-ism, isn't this the very same "with-us-or-against-us" lack of 'nuance' that has been tut-tutted since minutes after W's speech on 9/20/2001?

and "How many Koreans should die before the ROK is a worthy enough ally for you, Bob???"

You see, that's the beauty of being a good ally most of the time--it doesn't even require you to send people off to die! The government of South Korea could be a good ally without a single death by:
1. Not letting anti-American protests metastasize into VIOLENT protests against America's Embassy and military bases
2. Not contradicting and undercutting the United States' policies towards North Korea
3. Not sitting by and letting your teachers' unions propagandize hatred of both the United States and its other allies

That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure long-term Korea watchers could think of another dozen ways South Korea could be a "good ally" even without deploying a single boot on the sand.

Ask the Afghanis to make the exchange with the agreement that afterwards you'll attack with so much power that the Afghanis will never have to worry about the Taliban, ever again. Sharpen your knives Korea, lay it down. Good Luck!

"How is this one of those times? Swap 22 missionaries for 22 hardened terrorists? How many people do you think 22 hardened terrorists can kill? You think they couldn’t possibly kill more than 21? Because that would be the only logical justification for making the trade."
