I am here to deliver some desperately needed light news to the Hole.
It seems that the ajumma are trading in their pantaloons for something more interesting:
While miniskirts have long been a fashion icon symbolic of young and perky girls, a recent data shows that the traditional big buyers have been bumped by none other than 40-something housewives.
Lotte Department Store said Wednesday that an analysis of the mall’s miniskirt sales from 2005 to 2007 shows that the majority of consumers (32.7 percent) were in their 40s, beating out the 20-somethings who took up 21.4 percent of the January to June sales.
Of course 32.7 is a plurality rather than a majority. Anyway, the piece goes on to say why older ladies are buying the short skirts:
“Today’s older women have a toned physique thanks to the ongoing “well-being” fad, so they naturally look for clothes that can show off their bodyline,” Lotte spokesman Yoon Hyun-sik said, adding that “cross-age” fashion has been rising as a noticeable trend.
I would suggest that another reason is that the older ladies know that legs are often the last thing to go and they want to show off their best parts while they still can.
That is old news. Ol’ Ben Franklin talked about it over 250 years ago when advising a young man to choose an older lover:

Andy’s right, though - it isn’t a majority, it’s simply the largest group among purchasers. In fact, as my savvy wife quickly pointed out to me, it’s also simply the largest group among purchasers at Lotte. Lotte has lots of window shoppers of all ages, but its customers are, on average, much older than shoppers in some place like Dongdaemun. They’ll also be spending more for their short skirts than will the younger folks who head to other areas.
How many are being bought for teenage daughters?

I find Korean older women very attractive, even now that after ten years here they are the same age as me.
The Cougars are out in force these days. Just go to one of the 30+ Clubs or a Cabaret and you’ll see plenty of Cougars out looking for some action.
The days of Mamasita staying home while Oppa goes out to the Room Salons and 588 are gone. The ladies are getting theirs now too!!!

Yes, her name is indeed 정다연, but she is more commonly known by the moniker “몸짱아줌마”. She is a 41-year-old housewife who started working out religiously in the gym and developed that fine body that you see in the photos. Basically, she is the one to thank for starting this whole trend of ajummas shaping themselves up.
Business is booming.
