I forgot to link to a piece I did at the Korea Times two weeks ago on the possible political ramifications of a inter-Korean summit. Here it is.

Good stuff.
Liked the title, too. Was that yours?
My favorite reaction to the first summit was by the author of Aquariums of Pyongyang who wrote something to the effect of “I did not share the joy of my countrymen.” He saw right through the phony show.
I like the effective understatement in his comment. It shows his sadness and bitterness that South Koreans were duped.
I agree with your point that the same trick won’t be as effective this time. Eventually one of these dog and pony shows has to have some real substance or people are going to see that the promises don’t match the reality.
My original slug was “Don’t believe the election hype of a SK-NK summit.” That is why we have editors.
