Neither Democrats nor Republicans will sign the FTA as long as Kaesong (and hence, Kim Jong-Il) has a chance of benefiting from.

I've also noticed a complete lack of mention of this elephant in the room from the Korean press. It's much easier for the Korean press to throw around red herrings like a piddly 2% U.S. import duty on Hyundais rather than talk about the real issue : South Korea's insistence on shoveling as much money into Kim Jong-Il's pockets as possible.

It's obvious the Korean Press and their ilk is not interested in covering the real issues, but are more than happy to wave the Tae-goo-ki and talk about the U.S. as if it was an invading military force that must be defeated.

Free trade is a war of goods and services between companies.

Whoops! What happened to the "win/win" mantra? Right, that was just the bait; now the hook comes out. My guess is that in the end the US isn't going to bite, and Korea will have to postpone it's xx,000 per capita until it finds another sucker to subsidize it. Schadenfreude.

So South Korea views this coming FTA as a strategic Korean victory over a large, militant foreign aggressor?

That's nice to know. Puts things in perspective.
