Ampontan has a good essay on the Japanese Western, “Sukiyaki Western Django.”
I guess it should be mentioned here that Korea has its own Western coming out next year, “The Good, the Bad, The Weird.” Directed by Kim Ji-woon (“A Tale of Two Sisters,” “Bittersweet Life“) and blessed with a kick-ass cast of Lee Byung-hun, Jung Woo-sung and Song Kang-ho, “The Good, the Bad, The Weird” take the Western genre to Japanese-occupied Manchuria of the 1930s.
Koreans imitating Italians imitating Americans? Should prove very interesting indeed.

Finally, a movie to look forward to. This coould be really, really good.
Yeah, it is certainly a very promising one. This sort of movie, if well done, has the potential to become an international hit.
