Now, what was that other factor? Ah, right - sincerity.

And this from a self-described linguistic pedant.

I'm e-sorry. I'm internet-sorry. The "if" there means I don't really care enough to properly assay what's going on. Sorry that I'm e-sorry.

I remember watching a news report - it came in the wake of Michael Richards and Mel Gibson - which talked about apologies and how their acceptance came from a small but important set of factors. These factors seem to be important for acceptance of apologies generally. Sincerity was one factor, and another was an avoidance of conditional expression.

A Korean in Korea, if apologizing in a similar situation, would use the Korean grammatical equivalent of 'I was hasty, and so I am sorry'. Americans might say something like 'I'm sorry - I was hasty'. As unconditional statements, they're quite clear.

Your comment above, differs from these, and I'm still not sure if you're sorry. But that's okay - I know that brushstrokes can get too broad sometimes.

truth is, i wasn't really focused in on your comment - or any of your comments. i added "96" as a last second pitch. for effect. sorry if i was hasty.

Where in in #96 did I suggest that bluejives was comparing Robert Kim to Paul? As he wrote,
What was good enough for Paul is good enough for me.
He was demonstrably writing about himself, and I commented on such?

Rather, what's with you bringing in the idea that I'm somehow connected to a purported activity here of 'comments here expressing views short of i) american jingoism and ii) total disconnection with korea [being]...taken to be support for robert kim'?
