As a Filipino and a business owner myself, I can only say that, while their fate was not really called for, they really should have done more due diligence instead of letting their greed get the better of themselves, especially since they're dealing with a foreign entity from more than a thousand miles away. I understand that it's very tempting at times to grab opportunities that will make you money fast, but as they say in the business world, "if it sounds too good to be true, it actually is". Two kidnappings in three days in Kiwi country. The first was over an employment dispute. What makes the second one even stranger is that the man kidnapped was in New Zealand under a false id (deported in April), so now there’s a huge shadow of doubt over the whole case. Korea, fightin’ !

And fortunately, i have that most precious and valued of friends down there, a cousin-in-law who's an honest & competant lawyer. He had an import-export business in the Phillipines. He was selling his share of the business to his partner, another Korean, and had signed what he thought was a simple sales contract. Unfortunately, he misunderstood one clause in the contract as being a promise to pay the agreed upon amount, when it fact it stated that this amount had been paid in full. To top it all off, his partner had forged his signature on whatever documents were needed to register the business in her name only. He had a lawyer working on the case in the Philippines, trying to block the registration (he told him it could take years before he would see any money, and by then his partner could have run the business to the ground). I guess he came to me to understand exactly how he could get screwed over.
