While all the debate was centered on how “Americanized” Cho Seung Hui was, one could make a solid argument that Park Chan Ho has made the full transition and now needs only the blue passport to make his Americanization official.
He parlayed several decent but unspectacular seasons in LA (with 2000-2001 being his only solid years) into a monster $65 million free-agent contract with Texas in 2002. After which he proceeded to suck copious amounts of horse cock and was labeled an overpaid bust.
And that career arc (work your ass off with moderate success, leverage that moderate success in a weak free-agent market into a massive contract, then blow ass and mysteriously suffer numerous injuries while collecting huge paychecks) is one favored by many lazy-ass American athletes.
Hats off to you Chan Ho. Fleecing whitey and then suddenly losing your work ethic, fastball, and tolerance for pain once you’ve locked up guaranteed money is as American as apple pie. Can’t learn that in Korea!
