How NOT to use a live pig in your protest

So, how do you protest a planned base move to your town?  Why, by pulling off the limbs of a live, 2-month old pig and beheading it in front of the Ministry of Defense, of course! [Chosun Ilbo, Korean] Needless to say, the pig wasn’t too happy about it, as his expression [Maeil Gyeongje, Korean] clearly revealed, nor were a great many citizens, who are now holding memorials for the pig in Yongsan [JoongAng Ilbo, English].

That was totally cruel, disgusting, and unnecessary.

The only thing that the protest proved is that the average Korean farmer doesn’t have anything between their ears.

think they’re reading too many history books. What will they do next?

Put a pig inside boiling oil?

Can’t believe that Chinese and Korean kings used to punish people like that.

That pig must have sufferred with immense pain.

They should have beheaded it first, if they really wanted to do it, for whatever extreme shock value they wanted.

Then, again you are in territory where people set themselves on fire to protest something.

Vietnamese people do that, too, I think. Setting yourself on fire.

I have to believe the average Icheon resident protesting a base being built in their town is none too happy about this incident. It does much more to harm their cause than help it.

If anything, the ROK will move faster now to build a base in Icheon to keep the crazy farmers under control.

The Maeil article says some animal rights groups have lodged a complaint with the Prosecutor’s office for violating the Animal Protection Act. Article 7 of the Act prohibits cruel acts of slaughter(such as hanging) and public killings etc.

Too bad the punishment for this is only a fine of 5 million won or less - these psychos deserve to be locked up, if not treated to the same misery they inflicted on that animal.

“The group issued an apology on Thursday, saying that the killing of the pig was not planned.”

Yeah, it wasn’t premeditated. There’s a logical explanation to it. One guy just happened to have a pig in the trunk of his car. The pig escaped the trunk, got itself tangled in the rope that was in an other man’s car and then ended up being hind and quartered and decapitated as the men were trying to prevent it from causing any more mayhem.

Like many protests here, this one was probably soju-fueled. A couple of drunken sickos, made drunker by the mass-mind and collective han of the crowd, thought this would be a good way to illustrate their plight.

This does not excuse them, but it might explain them.

#14. This, in-fact is a metaphor for ol’ Railway’s chapter on Korean Envy. You will find this chapter right after the one on the Cultural Denial of Danger. In ancient Korean days a man in his village released a Genie from its bottle. When the Adjashi was asked if he could have one wish, what would it be? Answer: “Kill my neighbors pig”. And there you have it, life imitating folklore.

Not just a few scattered slices, but a full loaf of clueless Wonderbread on display in this thread.

Slicing off your finger shows commitment to the cause.

Shaving your head displays an unflinching, unyielding determination to vanquish your opponent.

Wearing a headband and pumping your fist while chanting inane and retarded slogans proves that repetition can sink even the most feared enemy.

And now, the next step in the evolution of a serious, mature, effective protest culture: The torture and slaughter of baby swine.

The sooner you haughty white bastards admit that Koreans protest methods are among the most advanced in the world, having earned the ROK the title of “Northeast Asian Hub of Finger-Cutting and Hair-Shaving,” the better off we’ll all be. So get off your goddamn whitey high horses and bow down to the bald, head-band wearing, fist-pumping, pig sticking adjoshi…or shut the fuck up.

‘Yes, let’s empathize with pigs over breakfast. I love everthing (trademark) and its capacity to make a dead pig some kind of blight on people who kill pigs in cold blood. Also, pigs are delicious.’

the smartest statement i’ve seen so far on this thread.

there are no laws in this country governing the treatment of livestock. you can do what you will with them. for instance, one day i saw a video in which a couple of guys took a pig out to be slaughtered. the pig was given to them by the company. one guy wacked the pig on it’s head with a metal pipe thus causing the pig to collapse and wither in agony. that’s when another guy started to cut the pigs throat, but too bad for the pig, the guy took his time cutting through all the fat before getting to salvation. the third guy started to cut off the pig’s leg even though miss piggy was still on stage.

we humans, we’re just cruel all around when it comes to the things we eat, aren’t we?

‘So get off your goddamn whitey high horses.’

Pawi, sorry, but I gotta say that’s one of the most pathetic attempts at Socratic questioning I’ve ever seen. I mean, really. Is that necessary when you’ve got such a tool as the search engine just at the tip of your fingers?

Look what took me 4 seconds flat to find with Google:

1991 South Korean Animal Protection Law:

    Article 6

    1. No one shall kill animals in a way which is cruel or which provokes
    disgust without proper, rational reason.

    2. Animals shall not be subject to the infliction of unnecessary pain or
    injury without proper, rational reason.

(In case you know as little about biology as you do about computers, livestock = animals).

    http://www.aapn.org/koreanlaw.html

Before you get your hopes up, let me shoot them down…It’s been revised in January of this year:

“Language regarding the slaughter of animals is much more specific. The old law specified that one “could not kill an animal without a rational reason,” while the new law specifies that animals cannot be killed by hanging, killed in an open area or on a street, nor killed in front of other animals.”
